Job summary

Baker Hughes in Doha seeks a Thermal Spray Operator to coat gas turbine components using ABB robotic systems. You will work with the service center team to meet BH standards and customer specs, performing spray processes, maintenance, and related tasks on site.

The role requires 5 years coating experience, ability to read drawings, and proficiency with ABB IRC5 controllers. Strong teamwork and commitment to safety are essential for success.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED and strong math skills.
• 5 years coating experience on gas turbine components.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and coating specs.
• Operate and program CNC equipment or production robots.
• Knowledge of ABB Robots IRC5 Controllers.

Responsibilities

• Operate, program and maintain thermal spray equipment per work instructions.
• Prepare laboratory samples and approve new sprays/processes.
• Develop fixtures for new product lines with the cell leader.
• Change parts and execute work per product drawings and specs.
• Maintain safety rules and high quality standards in all tasks.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines.
• Prepare components (masking and surface prep).
• Polish/blend to remove overspray using pneumatic grinders.
• Run vacuum furnace operations as required.
• Assist welding, grinding, assembling, shot peening as needed.
• Keep work area clean and assist with housekeeping.
• Update digital shop systems (DWO, Time Vouchering, operations).
• Ensure compliance with HSE and BH policies.

The Thermal Spray operator will work with respective cell leader of the Qatar Service Center to make sure all BH standards and Organizational need are met. He / She will also be responsible to perform Thermal Spray on Gas Turbine’s Combustion and Hot Gas path components by Using ABB Robotic manipulator in the organization.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

As Thermal operator. He/She will be performing below but not limited to.

• Operates, programs and maintains specialized thermal spray equipment in accordance with work instructions and customer specifications.
• Preparation of laboratory samples / approval of new sprays and processes.
• Works with cell leader in the development of required fixtures for new product lines.
• Performs part changeovers and execution of work according to product specifications, drawings, and work instructions.
• Performs all work in accordance with plant safety rules and maintains highest quality standards in the execution of all assigned work.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance on all machines and other routine labor work as required in accordance with production flow.
• Preparation of components (masking and surface preparation)
• Blending/Polishing to remove overspray by using pneumatic grinders
• Vacuum furnace operations as requires
• He/ she shall be utilized on Welding, Grinding, Assembling, Shot peening, Bucket Moment weight etc… as requires
• Maintain a clean work area and contribute towards overall housekeeping efforts and other duties as needed
• Updates digital shop systems related to assigned work (Digital Work Order, Time Vouchering, Operation completion)
• Ensure the work area is compliance with HSE requirement
• Full compliance with BH Policies / Procedures

To be successful in this role you will:

• Must have HS Diploma or GED. Strong shop mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions required.
• On the job experience of 5 years in coatings of gas turbine components.
• Must be able to read and interpret drawings and coating specifications.
• Operation and programming of CNC equipment or production robots.
• Required Minimum knowledge on ABB Robots&IRC5 Controllers operations

Desired Characteristics:

• Basic understanding of industrial safety;
• Basic technical understanding of manufacturing equipment and coatings;
• Basic understanding of tool and gauge handling
• Kawasaki Robots programing is an added value
• Proficiency on Robot Studio & Metco Coating Consoles is an added value.
