Job summary

HelloFresh is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Data Privacy team within the Order & Subscription Experience Tribe. You will lead a squad of product and backend engineers, translate GDPR/CCPA requirements into a concrete roadmap, and stay technically engaged through architecture reviews and incident debugging without being the primary hands-on contributor.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow a squad of data privacy engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Own the quarterly roadmap for data privacy with your Product Manager, balancing deadlines and reliability.
• Drive core privacy capabilities: consent management, DSAR handling, retention/deletion pipelines, and PII discovery/classification.
• Own operational health of privacy systems: SLAs, audit trails, and postmortems.
• Partner with Legal, Security, Compliance, and other engineering tribes to embed privacy early in design.
• Represent data privacy engineering in cross-tribe forums and manage stakeholder expectations.
• Champion privacy-by-design practices and maintain accessible documentation.
• Contribute to hiring, capacity planning, and code reviews; mentor engineers.
• Foster a continuous improvement culture and HelloFresh DNA.

About the role: What's in the Box

The Data Privacy team sits within the Order & Subscription Experience Tribe, part of the Consumer Alliance. The team is responsible for the systems and guardrails that let HelloFresh handle customer data responsibly at scale. Consent management, Data subject rights, Data retention and minimization, PII discovery and classification, and privacy-by-design tooling embedded into the Hellofresh flows that touch millions of customers globally.

As Engineering Manager, you'll lead a squad of product/backend engineers building and operating these systems, partner closely with a Product Manager & Stakeholders to translate regulatory and business requirements (GDPR, CCPA, and other regional privacy regulations) into a working roadmap, and stay technically engaged, reviewing architecture and code, joining incident & debugging sessions, without being the primary hands-on contributor.

What you'll do: The Recipe

• Manage and grow a squad of data privacy, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Own the quarterly roadmap for data privacy in partnership with your Product Manager, balancing regulatory deadlines, risk reduction, and platform reliability.
• Drive execution on core privacy capabilities: consent and preference management, automated data subject request (DSAR) handling, data retention/deletion pipelines, and PII discovery/classification across Hellofresh domains & systems.
• Own operational health of privacy systems. SLAs, data deletion guarantees, audit trail completeness and run postmortems when things go wrong
• Partner with Legal, Security, Compliance, and other engineering tribes across the Hellofresh to ensure privacy requirements are embedded early in product and platform design, not bolted on afterward.
• Represent data privacy engineering in cross-tribe forums, managing stakeholder expectations and pushing back on off-roadmap requests when needed.
• Champion privacy-by-design practices and clear, accessible documentation across the org.
• Actively contribute to hiring and capacity planning, conduct regular code reviews, and mentor engineers.
• Drive a continuous improvement culture and promote the HelloFresh DNA.
