Job description

Are you an environmental expert familiar with environmental impact assessment reporting? Sweco’s Strategic Planning Team is looking for a driven person who enjoys taking the lead in preparing a SEA report. We work on numerous plans and projects that support a sustainable transition in our cities and open spaces. But what do these projects mean for their surroundings? Both legislation and society itself are increasing the ambition to safeguard air, soil, water, and nature quality. How can we maximize our focus on projects or interventions that make a positive contribution to the environment? We are eager to take on this challenge and are looking for integrated solutions!

WHO WE ARE

Sweco shapes the sustainable communities and cities of the future. The Strategic Planning Team is a multidisciplinary research, planning, and design team within Sweco. Together, we translate the shared ambition “Transforming Society Together” into concrete visions and projects for spatial transition. We focus on climate adaptation, the construction shift, strong open-space landscapes, and a sustainable economy.

We work from several locations: Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Hasselt, and Leuven.

Would you like to take on these challenges with us? Then this vacancy might be something for you!

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • You work on preparing environmental impact assessments for strategic plans and projects, which may or may not comprehensively address various themes such as open space, construction shift, mobility, infrastructure, energy, economy, etc.
  • Together with a team, you prepare a SEA report and provide strategic advice throughout the process.
  • You translate technical knowledge and requirements regarding environmental aspects into strategic choices in plans and processes.
  • You are the linchpin who maintains oversight of the SEA, both in terms of content and practically.
  • You coordinate internally and externally with the client, the SEA team, and advisory bodies.
  • You inform the SEA experts about progress, planning, and budget.
  • You identify alternatives and scenarios.
  • You carry out scoping and, together with the team, decide which disciplines are relevant.
  • You regularly develop disciplines yourself.
  • You keep an eye on the bigger picture, such as participation, communication, process facilitation, etc.
  • You are ultimately responsible for the quality and readability of the SEA reports.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You have a degree in bio-engineering, industrial engineering in environmental science, geography, or another relevant master’s degree, or equivalent experience.
  • You have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • You are interested in various transition projects in urban development, mobility, infrastructure, and/or energy. You are fascinated by the impact these projects have on society.
  • You are recognized as a SEA coordinator, or you can qualify for this in the short term.
  • You have affinity with the preparation of spatial policy plans, spatial implementation plans, regulations, and strategic projects.
  • You keep a cool head in complex cases and peak periods.
  • You have strong writing skills and can report in a clear and structured way.
  • You are a team player and communicate well with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A pleasant working atmosphere in a strong team of committed professionals: discipline experts, spatial planners, designers, landscape architects, traffic experts, etc.
  • A career in a growing and leading company where people come first.
  • Extensive development and training opportunities, both internally through our own Sweco Academy and externally.
  • An innovative compensation package (through our Flex Income Plan, you can tailor part of your compensation package yourself).
  • Various additional mobility options such as shared bikes, public transport, etc.
  • A varied job content.

We place great importance on transparent compensation. Therefore, we share the relevant employment conditions no later than the first interview.
