Job summary

Vonage is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead fraud prevention engineering. You will anchor platform architecture, guide the evolution of real-time, high-throughput systems, and mentor engineers while driving architectural decisions for reliability and security.

You will work with Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Kafka, and Kubernetes to scale our platform as customer demand grows, leveraging AI tools to boost development and fraud detection capabilities.

Qualifications

• Senior/Staff level with ownership of architecture and delivery across multiple engineers or teams.
• Deep expertise in scalable, distributed, event-driven systems using Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Kafka, and Kubernetes.
• Mentor engineers and raise technical standards and maturity across the org.
• Strong focus on performance, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Experience with containerized apps and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and Helm.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management, with an AI-first mindset.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and long-term architectural vision for the Fraud Prevention Platform.
• Lead design of high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems processing millions of events in real time.
• Drive performance optimization and resolve complex system-level challenges.
• Shape the technical roadmap, balancing priorities, debt, scalability, and ops.
• Own architectural decisions ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Mentor engineers and align technical strategy with business objectives.
• Define coding standards, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
• Participate in on-call rotations for production services.
