Job summary

Vonage in Wroclaw is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Fraud Prevention team. You will architect and develop high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that process millions of events in real time to protect customers.

This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, mentoring engineers, defining coding standards, and driving architectural decisions, while embracing AI-powered workflows to boost productivity and security.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Tech Lead / Staff Engineer roles with ownership of architectural direction and delivery across multiple engineers or teams.
  • Deep expertise in designing scalable, highly available, distributed, event-driven systems using Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Kafka, and Kubernetes.
  • Strong track record mentoring engineers and helping teams grow technically.
  • Excellent understanding of performance optimization, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with containerized applications and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and Helm.
  • AI-native mindset with practical experience using AI tools to improve engineering productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and long-term architectural vision for Vonage's Fraud Prevention Platform.
  • Lead the design and evolution of high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems processing millions of fraud detection events in real time.
  • Lead performance optimization initiatives and resolve complex system-level challenges.
  • Shape the long-term technical roadmap for the Fraud Prevention Platform, balancing business priorities, technical debt, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Drive and own significant architectural decisions ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability across the platform.
  • Partner with product and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business objectives.
  • Mentor engineers across the team and broader engineering organisation, helping raise technical standards and engineering maturity.
  • Define and evolve coding standards, testing strategies, observability practices, and operational excellence across the organisation.
  • Guide the team through technical planning, solution design, and delivery of strategic initiatives.
  • Take part in on-calls for our production services.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Fraud Prevention engineering team. As a senior technical leader, you will act as a technical anchor for the platform, shaping the architecture and evolution of systems that process millions of events in real time to protect Vonage customers from fraud.

This role combines deep hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will drive architectural decisions, guide the technical direction of the team, mentor engineers, and help scale both our platform and engineering practices as the business continues to grow.

What you will do:

The Stack

  • Prior experience as a Tech Lead, Team Lead, Staff Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role, with demonstrated ownership of technical direction, architecture, and delivery across multiple engineers or teams.

  • Experience working on fraud prevention, risk management, or real-time decisioning systems.
