Job summary

Graphcore is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help build high performance AI compute libraries for future hardware. You will write optimized C++ kernels, work on GEMM and tensor operations, and ensure numerics correctness close to the hardware.

You will lead design reviews, mentor engineers and shape software ownership while balancing hands‑on implementation with broader technical direction across multi‑core systems.

What we’re looking for

• Excellent C++ and Python programming skills, with strong scripting ability
• Understanding of processor architectures and Linux profiling
• Proven technical leadership, including mentoring, design review and influencing engineering direction
• Ability to balance hands‑on implementation with broader technical ownership
• Strong grasp of performance engineering, including vectorisation, memory hierarchy and threading
• Experience testing numerical or performance-sensitive code, including benchmarking or validation

Responsibilities

• Build the compute libraries that decide how fast next generation AI hardware can really perform.
• As a Staff Software Engineer, you will create high performance AI compute libraries for next generation hardware. Your work will span linear algebra, tensor operations, numerical correctness and low level optimisation.
• You will own kernels that sit close to the hardware, where every design choice matters. The code you write will help customers get more performance from Graphcore systems.
• You will design and implement GEMM, batched GEMM, convolutions, reductions, elementwise and fused operations in C++. You will benchmark, profile, validate numerics and improve performance across threading, cache locality, memory layout and kernel launch efficiency.
• This is hands‑on engineering with real technical ownership. You will shape approaches, guide decisions and raise the quality of complex compute software.
