Job summary

Housecall Pro, a global home-services platform, seeks a Software Engineer II to join one of our Platform teams (IAM or API). You’ll build scalable backend services, own features end-to-end, and work with a senior squad across Product Platform, IAM, DevOps and SRE.

The role emphasizes practical engineering, collaboration, and ship-ready code. You’ll learn Ruby as our primary stack, with mentoring and a structured onboarding plan.

About The Role

As a Software Engineer II, you bring growing technical depth, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to take ownership of features and components across the product. You focus on building scalable, reliable systems, writing well-structured code, and contributing to solutions that deliver real customer value.

We are currently hiring Software Engineers II to join one of two teams within our Platform organization: Identity & Access Management (IAM) or API. The IAM team focuses on authentication, authorization, and access management, ensuring users can access only the resources and functionality they are permitted to use. One of the team’s key projects involves Keycloak, an open-source Identity and Access Management solution. The API team owns and improves the backend API layer that powers the Housecall Pro application, with a strong current focus on application performance and creating a fast, reliable user experience.

In this role, you will elevate team effectiveness by sharing knowledge, contributing to design and code reviews. Compensation

5,300 - 6,600 USD per month

What You’ll Do

• Build a product that improves users’ lives (75k unique daily users, 4.6 at App Store) Learn more about the HCP product
• Design, build, and maintain reliable, performant, and maintainable software systems that deliver real value to users
• Take ownership of features or components from design through deployment, ensuring quality, scalability, and resilience
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to translate product goals into technical solutions
• Participate actively in architectural discussions, code reviews, and design sessions, contributing constructive feedback and new ideas
• Troubleshoot complex issues across the stack, identifying root causes and implementing robust fixes
• Help shape technical standards and best practices that promote consistency, maintainability, and performance
• Continuously grow your technical expertise and mentor more junior engineers through collaboration and example
• Explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to improve developer productivity, system quality, and product innovation

• Nice to have: experience with Ruby / Rails, event-driven architectures, MySQL at scale, or previous work on an internal platform or infrastructure team
• This position requires fluency in both Polish and English

You’ll join a small and senior squad focused on cross-cutting search concerns, working closely with Product Platform teams, IAM, DevOps, and SRE. We value clear ownership, pragmatic engineering, and iterating in small, safe steps. You’ll have room to shape our long-term search strategy while shipping meaningful improvements.

Our primary technology stack at HCP is Ruby

To be effective in this role, you’ll need to learn it. We offer support in the learning process, tailored to your needs and any prior experience with Ruby. This may include mentoring from our experienced engineering team or access to a paid online course that you can complete during working hours as part of your onboarding. The exact form of support will be agreed upon based on insights from your selection process.

This role is open to candidates in Poland. The specific salary for the successful candidate will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience.
