Job summary

Itera is seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join our team and work for a Norwegian product company. The role focuses on building and maintaining automated UI and API tests with Playwright and TypeScript in an international, self-motivated team.

You will design test strategies, contribute to requirements reviews, reduce flaky tests, and advance the automation framework while ensuring code quality, security, and alignment with architecture.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in test automation.
• Experience with UI and API automation using Playwright and TypeScript.
• Experience with CI, build pipelines, and automated test execution.
• English: upper-intermediate (verbal and written).
• Experience troubleshooting failures in automated tests.
• Experience with test automation frameworks.
• Version control experience with Git.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain manual and automated test documentation across the full testing lifecycle.
• Engage in early-stage requirements review and shift-left testing.
• Develop and maintain automated UI and API test scripts using Playwright.
• Execute and optimize large-scale regression, functional, and integration test suites.
• Build, enhance, and modernize the test automation framework.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain manual and automated test documentation, including test plans, checklists, and test cases across the full testing lifecycle.

• Engage in early-stage requirements review and shift-left testing practices to identify quality risks before development begins.

• Develop and maintain automated UI and API test scripts using Playwright.

• Execute and optimize large-scale regression, functional, and integration test suites, improving stability, reducing flakiness, and increasing execution speed.

• Build, enhance, and modernize the test automation framework, including upgrading core libraries and reducing technical debt.

• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and developers to gather technical requirements, clarify acceptance criteria, and contribute to planning new solutions.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members in a self-organized, empowered team environment.

• Be able to critically evaluate and take ownership of AI-generated output, ensure code quality, maintainability, security, and architectural alignment.

Professional requirements:

• At least 3 years of experience in test automation.

• Experience in troubleshooting SW/system issues and identifying root causes of failures in automated tests.

• Experience with building and maintaining test automation frameworks.

• Practical experience with UI and API automation (Playwright +TypeScript).

• Practical experience of API testing.

• Experience with continuous integration, build pipelines, and automated test execution.

• Willingness to learn and work proactively, with the ability to make decisions within an empowered team.

• Experience with version management systems (Git).

• English: upper intermediate, bothverbaland written.

Be a plus/Nice to have:

• Education from IT – Bachelor or higher.

• Experience in insurance software.

• Experience in load testing (JMeter).

• Knowledge of performance testing tools.

• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar AI tools) for test automation tasks.
