Job summary

Imagination Technologies, a UK-based silicon/IP leader, is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to design and implement an orchestration platform for silicon engineering workflows. You will craft modular, testable components, emphasize clean data contracts, and ensure robust error handling, retry, and observability.

Strong Python and async skills are essential, with Linux proficiency and CI/testing familiarity.

Qualifications

• Experience of professional software development with Python or an equivalent language.
• Strong understanding of SOLID, OOP design, and composition-based architecture.
• Ability to write testable code: dependency injection, mocking external systems, and clear separation of I/O from business logic.
• Experience building composable software: small, well-scoped modules/functions/classes that combine predictably.
• Comfortable with asynchronous programming (e.g., Python asyncio) for coordinating external process execution and I/O-bound work.
• Experience designing data models/schemas (e.g., Pydantic or dataclasses) and using type checking to prevent integration errors.
• Solid understanding of error handling and failure-mode design: retries, idempotency, graceful degradation.
• Familiarity with version control workflows (Git), CI pipelines, and automated testing frameworks (pytest).
• Comfortable working in Linux environments and calling out to external CLI tools safely.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement orchestration logic using a modern workflow engine; decompose monolithic pipelines into small, reusable units.
• Apply solid software design principles to keep orchestration code maintainable as complexity grows.
• Define clear, strongly-typed data contracts between pipeline stages, favoring lightweight references over large payloads.
• Design retry, checkpoint, and resume logic for long-running jobs to recover from failures.
• Implement human-in-the-loop patterns for review and resume or reroute based on input.
• Write thorough automated tests (unit/integration) for orchestration logic and edge cases.
• Build observability into the application layer: logging, metrics, and clear status reporting.
• Collaborate with infra to consume secrets and config via well-defined interfaces.
