Job summary

Cisco’s Forward Deployed Software Engineering (FDSE) team builds production-grade software and AI-enabled solutions that unlock the full value of Splunk and Cisco technologies. The team works near customers and cross-functional partners, delivering scalable software and reusable capabilities across engagements.

As part of a globally distributed team, you will design, develop, and deliver cloud-native applications, integrations, and automation, while mentoring peers and advancing engineering

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building production-grade software, APIs, integrations, or cloud-native services.
• Experience with modern programming languages (Python preferred).
• Experience with enterprise platforms, distributed systems, cloud technologies, or automation frameworks.
• Experience using modern AI development tools and APIs in the software lifecycle.

Your Impact

Design, develop, and deliver production-grade software solutions that help customers solve complex operational challenges while creating reusable capabilities for the broader Splunk ecosystem.

Lead technical initiatives from discovery through production, navigating ambiguous requirements, making sound architectural decisions, and balancing rapid delivery with long-term maintainability.

Partner directly with customers, Solution Engineers, Product Engineering, and Customer Experience teams to understand business problems, communicate technical trade-offs, and deliver solutions that create measurable customer value.

Build modern integrations, automation, AI-enabled capabilities, and cloud-native applications by rapidly learning new technologies and applying them effectively across a wide variety of customer engagements.

Provide technical leadership through architecture discussions, mentoring, code reviews, and engineering best practices while helping evolve reusable frameworks, engineering standards, and open-source solutions across FDSE.

Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools - including Claude Code, Codex, or similar - to accelerate software development while maintaining ownership of quality, security, and production readiness. Where appropriate, design and deliver AI-powered capabilities and application patterns.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 6+ years of professional experience designing, developing, and delivering production-grade software applications.
• Experience developing software using modern programming languages (Python preferred) and building applications, integrations, APIs, or cloud-native services.
• Experience working with enterprise platforms, distributed systems, cloud technologies, or automation frameworks.
• Experience using modern AI development tools and APIs as part of the software engineering lifecycle.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Splunk, including developing applications, dashboards, data integrations, or operational workflows.
• Experience building AI-enabled applications using LLMs, RAG, vector databases, AI agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP), or similar technologies.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications using AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar platforms, including Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.
• Experience working in customer-facing engineering organizations such as Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Professional Services, or Technical Consulting.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
