Job summary

Philip Morris International invites a Platform Engineer to join our data platform team in Kraków or Lisbon. You will optimize and evolve our data infrastructure, enabling data products across PMI's analytics ecosystem.

You’ll collaborate with software teams, implement governance, and drive automation to improve performance and reliability. Ideal candidates have strong backend design experience, familiarity with cloud data platforms, and a proactive, self-starting mindset working in hybrid/remote

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years experience with data management tools (e.g., Atlan, Montecarlo, IBM, Informatica).
  • Experience with monitoring/logging tools and frameworks (Grafana, ELK, SIEM or Splunk).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing (Snowflake, Databricks) and ETL/ELT orchestration (DBT, Matillion).
  • Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • IaC/PaC principles and tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Certifications in mentioned technologies are welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor platform components supporting data management capabilities such as data catalog, data catalog, data quality, lineage, and data observability
  • Evolve data management platform components in alignment with the defined roadmap
  • Implement and manage access control, authentication, and authorization for data management platform components
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, privacy, and governance standards
  • Improve platform operation and automation focusing on performance, scalability, availability, resiliency and improving utilization.
  • Ensure security best practices are followed in all aspects of the development and deployment process in adherence to internal policy framework and are fully industrialized for consumption by customers and technology groups
  • Support software development teams in adopting and effectively using platform components and related capabilities
  • Participate and support the Agile methods and frameworks by taking part in planning events, daily stand-ups, planning sessions, code reviews and other discussions and events
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and proactively scout and evaluate new components and tools where needed

We have built the data platform over the last few years to enable PMI’s data and analytics driven transformation journey. The data platform consists of state‑of‑the‑art architecture and technologies e.g. database, data lake, data ingestion, ELT, Cloud, data orchestration, data management, business intelligence, advanced analytics etc. Our team is responsible for building, evolving and operating the data platform for various PMI teams who build data products & applications on top of it.

We are looking for a talented Platform Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us optimize and evolve our data infrastructure and streamline our operations.

The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic self‑starter with deep expertise in complex backend structures capable of working with different integrated systems.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and monitor platform components supporting data management capabilities such as data catalog, data catalog, data quality, lineage, and data observability

  • Proven experience with main Data Management Tools such as Atlan, Montecarlo, IBM, Informatica etc. Minimum 2 year experience.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools and framework ( Grafana, ELK stack SIEM or Splunk).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) and practices.
  • Solid understanding of data platforms, including warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks), ETL/ELT orchestration and workflow management tools (eg DBT and Matillion), and metadata management
  • Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) and platform as code (PaC) principles and tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of networking and security best practices.
  • Experience in managing and optimizing system performance and availability
  • Certifications in mentioned technologies are very welcome
