Job summary

Windfall Trust is seeking a Lead Economist to own the core research products and serve as the economic authority behind what we publish. You bring extensive labor economics, fiscal or welfare analysis, and quantitative modeling expertise with senior-level experience across policy research.

You may oversee the Policy Atlas, Preparedness Map, Scenarios Lab, or scenario evaluations, guiding methods, data choices, drafting, and external review.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in economics or closely related field; 8+ years of applied economic research or policy analysis.
• Senior-level work in two of: labor economics, development economics, public finance or welfare policy.
• Publication or public-analysis record with scrutinized methodology.
• Experience across countries or in international institutions is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with AI-and-labor literature is a strong bonus.
• Experience presenting technical work to senior non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to travel internationally and work in a fast-moving, remote, international team.

Responsibilities

• Own the methodology and delivery of Windfall's flagship research products: Policy Atlas, Preparedness Index, Scenarios Lab, or Scenarios Report.
• Design and defend cross-country index methodology, including indicator selection and weighting.
• Translate narrative AI scenarios into quantified economic parameters for distributional and fiscal results.
• Analyze labor market resilience and how economies absorb or amplify tech shocks.
• Assess fiscal and welfare system resilience across income levels under disruption.
• Cost and evaluate policy responses under each scenario.
• Publish Windfall's research and engage with government analysts and international institutions.
• Set standards for rigor, reproducibility, and documentation across quantitative work.
