Legal Team

Worldwide, the group's legal team consists of around 180 employees. The European Legal Operations team comprises approx. 26 employees based across offices in UK, Europe and India who support and advise the business on many aspects of our numerous high-profile projects. The Legal team works closely with our Sales and Operations colleagues and with Management at all levels. The European Legal Operations team provides strategic legal support across the full lifecycle of business opportunities, from procurement stage, contract structuring, negotiation, execution, and delivery, while partnering closely with Sales, Operations, and corporate functions.

The Role

As legal counsel in the European Legal team you will be a key legal advisor to principally the Polish business’ operational, sales and corporate functions teams, but the role can also extend to the wider European operational teams so experience in other European jurisdictions would be preferred.

The role requires expertise in providing strategic legal advice, procurement strategies, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, and advising on legal and contractual risks to enable successful project delivery. In addition the role also supports the corporate functions of our Polish business therefore experience of Polish employment and corporate law is required. Important for this role will be your confidence with contract negotiations, your pragmatic legal approach and your strength in operational & corporate team partnering and internal stakeholder engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts, including client contracts, joint ventures, teaming agreements, subcontracts, guarantees, and NDAs.
  • Prepare and maintain standard contract templates and legal documentation.
  • Provide legal support during bidding processes and contract negotiations.
  • Advise business teams on contractual obligations and legal risks.
  • Conduct legal research and resolve conflict of laws issues.
  • Deliver legal and contractual training to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with contract management and compliance monitoring.
  • Collaborate on dispute resolution and external legal proceedings.
  • Translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice aligned with business goals.
  • Employment & Corporate Matters, e.g. advising on employment contracts, HR policies, corporate requirements and other related legal issues.
  • Monitoring and analysis of legal changes affecting Jacobs’ operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Qualified to practice law in Poland and preferably in at least one other European jurisdiction and/or the UK
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar in-house legal role, ideally within a large international organization
  • Proven experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including client contracts, joint ventures, and subcontracts
  • Fluent written and spoken English; ability to communicate legal concepts clearly and effectively
  • Strong understanding of commercial and contract law, particularly in the engineering, construction, or technology sectors
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clearly, persuasively, and with precision
  • Abilityto work independently, take direction, and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in legal research and the ability to stay current with relevant legislation and industry standards
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate complex legal issues, offering pragmatic, business-focused solutions in simple language, both orally and in writing
