Job summary

Balyasny Asset Management L.P. invites a Senior Cloud Engineer in Warsaw to shape cloud strategy, architecture, and automation, collaborating with developers and platform teams.

You will mentor the Cloud Engineering team, design and manage AWS and GCP environments, Kubernetes offerings, and tooling with a focus on security, reliability, and cost optimization.

The role includes on-call rotations, rapid delivery of solutions, and contributing to open‑source projects and internal platforms.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience architecting large-scale, highly available services on public clouds.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes platform, cluster lifecycle, security, and managed offerings.
• Strong DevOps mindset and platform engineering practices.
• Experience with immutable infrastructure and infrastructure automation tools.
• Cloud-native security practices and tooling expertise.
• Moderate programming capability for infra (Python/Go).
• Strong Linux administration and networking knowledge.
• Familiarity with Hashicorp Vault and cloud cost optimization.
• Experience with Kubernetes on-prem is a plus.
• Open-source contributions are valued.

Responsibilities

This exciting hands-on role within our Infrastructure team will provide you with the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the firm’s cloud implementation, strategy, and architecture design. At BAM, you will have the chance to work with some of the smartest and most driven individuals in the industry.

As a Senior Cloud Engineer at BAM, you will:

• Serve as a mentor and guide to Cloud Engineering team members.
• Run internal projects efficiently with self-managing autonomy.
• Play a key role in architecting and managing BAM’s public cloud environments (AWS, GCP).
• Help to design and automate BAM's Kubernetes offerings, especially managed cloud offerings.
• Partner with developers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and provide recommendations for cloud solutions and strategies to address those needs.
• Work with Infrastructure & Platform teams to provide a consistent end user experience across BAM’s on-premise and cloud environments.
• Write code to automate and optimize deployment of infrastructure and applications (whether it’s Python, Terraform, Go, or something else).
• Develop self-service capabilities that allow stakeholders to access cloud services quickly and efficiently.
• Implement and support applications running on BAM’s cloud and Kubernetes systems, especially as they support our user-facing platforms.
• Integrate our platforms with open-source observability tools like Grafana and Prometheus.
• Use LLMs and autonomous agents as force multipliers for our offerings.
• Stay up to date with the latest trends and offerings within the cloud and Kubernetes computing space, and act as a champion of their adoption across the organization.
• Participate in out-of-hours on-call rotation and maintenance.

To be considered a good fit, you should have:

• Extensive hands-on experience architecting and implementing large-scale, highly available, services on public cloud.
• Practical skills with Kubernetes as a platform, including cluster creation from scratch, cluster management, security, deployment of applications, and experience with managed Kubernetes platforms.
• A familiarity with and commitment to DevOps and Platform Engineering best practices.
• Expert knowledge of immutable infrastructure, infrastructure automation and provisioning tools, such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience with cloud-native security practices and tools.
• Basic to intermediate programming capability particularly as it relates to infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of Linux administration particularly RPM-based operating systems.
• Strong operational understanding of networking concepts, architecture, and best practices, especially as it relates to hybrid cloud integration..
• Systems architecting and design skills, Cloud, Kubernetes, serverless, etc.
• An ability to develop quick and sound solutions to complex problems.
• An orientation toward working in an agile-based team, prioritizing quick frequent deliverables guided by high-level roadmaps rather than large and infrequent waterfall releases.
• A commitment to improving team practices and systems.
• A goal of being supportive of team members in meetings, change reviews, and design discussions.
• A strength in communication/presentation, written and in meetings (leveraging AI is fine but not being dependent on it).
• Familiarity with Hashicorp Vault.
• Experience with Kubernetes service meshes.
• Contributions to open-source libraries, projects, or communities
• Experience working with Kubernetes on-prem.
• AWS Certified Developer/DevOps or Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional).
• Understanding of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimization.
• Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD, CKS).
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible.
• Knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure management.
