We are looking for a passionate and proficient industrial specialist with expertise in power system analysis/ management and high-level programming. In an inter-disciplinary environment, you will drive cutting-edge innovation for different complex systems in power grid applications. How You’ll Make An Impact

• You create impact: Together with your team design innovative approaches for grid operation and deliver them as robust software modules
• You investigate: Translate real power-system problems into rigorous models and final solutions for the customers
• You take initiative: Collaborate with a global and inter-disciplinary team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy to drive the development from concept to production
• You connect: Build relationships within the company and actively share your knowledge and expertise. Interact with local and global external partners including universities, start-ups, and vendors to integrate diverse perspectives and stakeholder inputs
• You communicate: Be able to clearly communicate concepts to software developers, implementation engineering teams and customers. Produce clear design docs and developer-facing examples/ notebooks that enable reuse.

Your background

• Master Electrical/Power Systems Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Master’s degree with equivalent industry experience
• Proven expertise in modelling and steady-state analyses of power grids demonstrated hands-on expertise applying these methods in software development.
• Knowledge in mathematical optimization applied to power systems, and modern numerical solvers is strongly desired (e.g., MIP/NLP, stochastic; tools such as Gurobi, CPLEX, Ipopt). Experience with machine learning and/or artificial intelligence technologies is a plus
• Proficiency in C#, C++, Rust or a similar high-level programming language is required; Python and/or Matlab for analytics and fast prototyping are a plus.
• Experience building state-of-the-art software engineering techniques (version control, code reviews, testing, CI/CD) and integrating solution algorithms into performance-critical system applications are beneficial (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). High performance computing skills such as parallel/distributed computing, GPU, OpenMP or MPI would be beneficial
• Experience with industrial protocols and standards (IEC 61850, IEC-60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA, IEEE C37.118).
• Practical experience developing systems for power grid management and monitoring having familiarity with WAMS/WAMPAC, PMU data, and protection and control applications.
• Solid understanding of numerical methods, signal processing, and control fundamentals and ability to work with high-frequency, time-aligned time-series data
• Good understanding of power system dynamics and the stability challenges introduced by high penetration of renewables
• Excellent communication skills in English, team player attitude, initiative and creativity
