University of Wroclaw invites applications for a post-doctoral assistant professor position at the Alfred Jahn Cold Regions Research Centre, Institute of Geography and Regional Development, Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management.

The role focuses on near-surface geophysics and permafrost dynamics, leading non-invasive subsurface mapping and GPR campaigns, with fieldwork in the High Arctic. Collaboration with international partners is expected, and publications are a priority.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in geography, geology or related sciences obtained within 12 years prior to the year of employment in the project.
• Extensive, documented experience in geophysical research, especially using GPR in permafrost areas.
• Ability to process, invert and interpret GPR data and to integrate them with geomorphological and remote sensing data.
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals (JCR-listed).
• Readiness for multi-week field campaigns in the High Arctic.

Responsibilities

• Lead the non-invasive subsurface mapping campaign to image the internal structure of colluvial fans and debris cones.
• Conduct sub-bottom profiling from lake ice or UUV missions to map underwater extents.
• Plan, conduct and document GPR profiles and process geophysical data.
• Integrate geophysical data with remote sensing datasets (UAV/SfM, DEMs, ArcticDEM).
• Collaborate with international advisors and prepare scientific publications.
