Job summary

Poznan University of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in chemistry/biochemistry to advance a project on one-pot multienzymatic cascades for sustainable API synthesis. The role emphasizes biocatalysis, solvents for API synthesis, and process optimization.

Applicants should hold a PhD and have at least 3 years of lab experience, with publications in biocatalysis or biotechnology, and strong English skills. Fixed-term, 24 months, with start in November 2026 in Poland.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, chemical technology, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, biotechnology or related fields.
• At least 3 years in an experimental laboratory, preferably in chemical/materials sciences.
• Proven publications in biocatalysis/organic chemistry/biotechnology (2+ articles as co-author).
• Experience in biocatalytic processes and organic synthesis with knowledge of solvents (ILs/DES).
• Willingness to conduct scientific experimental work and teamwork.
• Excellent English, read/write scientific English; ability to read complex texts.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients via biocatalysis.
• Explore use of ionic liquids and DES for API synthesis.
• Optimize process conditions to reduce organic solvent use.
• Monitor process efficiency and perform flow synthesis of API.

Offer Description

The work within the project Development of One-pot Multienzymatic Cascade Systems for Sustainable Synthesis of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients will concern in particular: the designing and conducting of synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients via biocatalytic approach; application of ionic liquids and/or deep eutectic solvents for API synthesis; optimization of the process conditions with emphasis on reduction in use of organic solvents; controlling the conditions of the process and its efficiency; performing of the flow synthesis of API.

Qualification and project criteria:

• Obtaining a doctoral degree no earlier than 7 years before January 1, 2026.
• Obtaining a doctoral degree in an entity other than Poznan University of Technology.
• During the period of drawing a salary within the framework of this project, the person employed within the framework of this project will not draw any other remuneration from funds allocated as direct costs from research projects financed within the framework of the Polish National Science Centre competitions;
• During the period of drawing remuneration within the framework of this project, a person employed within the framework of this project will not draw remuneration from another employer based on an employment contract, including an employer based outside the territory of Poland.

Specific Requirements

• 1. Ph.D. degree in chemistry, chemical technology, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, biotechnology, biological sciences or related fields.
• 2. At least 3 years of experience working in an experimental laboratory, preferably in chemical and/or materials sciences.
• 3. Proven scientific achievements in the topics of biocatalysis/organic chemistry/biotechnology (at least 2 scientific articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals as co-author).
• 4. Knowledge and experience in the in analysing and optimising of biocatalytic processes. Laboratory experience in biocatalysis and organic synthesis. Knowledge in alternative solvents (ILs, DES) and the impact of process conditions on the synthesis process.
• 5. Predisposition to conduct scientific experimental work.
• 6. At least very good oral and written English skills (B2 level or equivalent, certified), ability to read, understand, and write in scientific English.
• 7. Knowledge and ability to operate computer software.
• 8. Analytical thinking, technical, and problem-solving skills.
• 9. Availability, desire for self-improvement, strong motivation for scientific work, creativity in solving problems, self-reliance, and ability to work in a team.

Terms of employment:

• Duration: 24 months
• Form of employment: fixed-term employment contract
• Amount of financing: Salary of a ca. PLN 8,660 gross/month.
• Start of work from: November 1, 2026
