Job summary

Center for Theoretical Physics PAS in Warsaw, Poland, seeks two research assistants—PhD candidates (R1)—to join the Modelling Center for Quantum Technologies group. The role involves pursuing original research on many-body open quantum systems and developing computational tools. One project will be supervised by Dr. Balducci and another jointly with Prof.

Szymańska and Dr. Balducci. Successful candidates will apply for a PhD externally and work on open-source code libraries, with a 36‑month

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Physics, or a related field confirmed by a diploma or a certificate issued by the educational institution; candidates who have not yet formally obtained the degree may also apply, provided they submit documentation confirming the current stage of the degree‑awarding process and obtain the degree before the start of employment.
  • Strong background in quantum statistical mechanics and many-body theory.
  • Programming skills and experience with numerical computations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with open quantum systems, e.g. master equations and/or quantum stochastic calculus or quantum information theory.
  • Familiarity with numerical tools for many-body quantum systems (e.g. exact diagonalization, tensor networks).
  • Experience with version control and collaborative coding (GitHub).

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out original research on many-body open quantum systems, developing theoretical and computational tools.
  • Attending international conferences and schools; maintaining the developed open-source code libraries.
