Job summary

Slate is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join our team in the USA, integrating software with factory floor operations. You will write production code, own features end‑to‑end, and collaborate with assembly‑line leadership to translate processes into system improvements.

You will embed with manufacturing, quality, and logistics teams, developing Go microservices, Python FastAPI, and React front ends within the FactoryOS platform.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of software engineering with production exposure to Python and Go or similar statically typed language.
• Solid React and TypeScript front-end experience, building production-quality UI components.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or other RDBMS, with strong queries and schema design.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging brokers like NATS, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Strong RESTful API design, HTTP fundamentals, and service-to-service communication.
• Experience in CI/CD environments with automated testing and deployment tooling.
• Exposure to MES, WMS, QMS, CMMS is advantageous but not required.

Responsibilities

• Embed directly with manufacturing operations, quality, and logistics teams to build technical solutions.
• Develop and maintain Go microservices, Python FastAPI, and React front ends within FactoryOS, owning features end-to-end.
• Translate complex manufacturing requirements into clean, testable code with clean architecture.
• Lead root cause analysis on production system issues and implement fixes.
• Define and instrument metrics for manufacturing system performance and opportunities for improvement.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and ensure high quality deliverables.
• Participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and retrospectives as a team member.
• Collaborate with OT, ERP, PLM, QMS, and CMMS stakeholders for correct integration points.
• Drive continuous improvement of manufacturing systems and development processes.
• Document system behavior, data flows, and runbooks for maintainability.
