Job summary

Slate is seeking a seasoned Manufacturing Quality Engineer to drive new product and process development for vehicle launches in the USA. You will lead QA/QC initiatives, work with cross-functional teams, and ensure robust quality systems across sub-assembly and general assembly.

You will apply advanced root-cause analysis, participate in FMEA/Control Plan development, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure material quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (industrial/mechanical/manufacturing) required.
  • 10+ years of automotive engineering/manufacturing quality experience at OEM or Tier 1.
  • Strong technical understanding of vehicle development and launch processes.
  • Experience delivering new program launches on time with metrics.
  • Proficiency with QA/QC tools and core documentation (FMEA, Control Plans, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement QA and QC processes for Sub-Assembly and General Assembly.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed quality requirements in manufacturing.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for quality issues.
  • Perform audits and inspections of processes for new car launch.
  • Coordinate with supplier quality teams on incoming materials expectations.
  • Maintain quality documentation (control plans, inspection procedures).
  • Apply risk assessment tools to minimize issues and verify detection/prevention systems.
  • Support FMEA development and maintenance.
  • Define quality processes and standards with development, product management and manufacturing.
  • Plan and evaluate product test drives and approvals.
  • Provide quality support to technical and manufacturing teams; support daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

| WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Slate is looking for a dynamic, experienced Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join our growing team. The position will primarily focus on new product and process development and will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and successful plant launch. The role will utilize core quality skills and tools to manufacture and deliver the highest quality products within our various manufacturing processes. The expectation will be to work closely with internal and external partners to ensure we exceed customers’ expectations.

| WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
  • Develop and implement robust quality assurance and control processes relative to Sub-Assembly and General Assembly.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality requirements are developed and seamlessly integrated within the manufacturing process.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to address technical and process quality issues to ensure the highest quality standards.

  • Perform regular audits and inspections of manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications for the new car launch.

  • Work closely with suppliers through the supplier quality team to establish and monitor quality expectations for incoming materials and components.

  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including control plans, inspection procedures, and quality manuals accordingly.

  • Risk minimization through use of appropriate risk assessment tools and verification of the robustness of detection and prevention systems for special characteristics.

  • Support the development and maintenance of FMEA’s

  • Support the definition of quality processes and technical standards in cooperation with development, product management and manufacturing to ensure product quality.

  • Support the planning and evaluation of product test drives within quality and approvals of functions and systems.

  • Provide quality support to the technical and manufacturing teams, as well as drive/support daily operations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:

The role will be expected to have high integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness and strive to exhibit a positive and growth mindset. You will feel comfortable operating in a flexible and fast paced environment with a collaborative approach to achieving goals! You’ll also bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (e.g.) industrial/ mechanical/ manufacturing or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in automotive engineering/manufacturing quality at an OEM/ Tier 1

  • Very good technical understanding and sound knowledge of product/vehicle development and production with focus on manufacturing plant launch.

  • A successful history of engaging in the delivery of new program launches on time while achieving metrics.

  • Very good product and process assessment skills, problem solving and root cause capabilities.

  • Sound knowledge of quality management with in-depth knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control disciplines.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, a high level of assertiveness as well as entrepreneurial thinking and goal- and result-oriented decision-making skills

  • Proven track record of engaging and participating in high-performing teams.

  • Proficient in the use of commonly applied quality tools and processes in the automotive industry (e.g. AIAG, IATF 169494, MSA, SPC, APQP, PPAP etc.).

  • Good working knowledge of core documentation - FMEA’s and Control Plans

  • Highest level of integrity and the ability to make data-driven decisions.

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment.

| SALARY RANGE:

The compensation for this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Base Pay Range (Annual)

108,877.26 - 163,315.90 USD Annual
