Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Lead Java Developer to provide architectural governance across the Governance Crew and wider IB Streams, coordinating with the Group CTO to align with group and IB architectural directions. The role requires bridging high-level strategy and local engineering execution while working from the customer’s office 3 days per week in Poland.

Responsibilities include driving standards, guardrails, reference architectures, and governance processes, while enabling IB engineering

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering with system design and API design experience.
• 5+ years in Lead/Principal Engineer roles, translating high-level requirements into technical direction.
• Experience in architecture and governance in regulated environments.
• Ability to translate group-level strategies into local engineering roadmaps.
• Strong communication and independent, proactive problem-solving in multinational settings.

• Ensure clear and relevant communication flows across group-led initiatives.
• Triage incoming IB and GCTO work to determine impact and coordinate responses.
• Shield the core architecture team by absorbing operational, data-gathering and coordination tasks.
• Support IB engineering teams with early engagement on new initiatives.
• Address architectural considerations from ideation through to delivery.
• Translate complex Group-level technical strategies into actionable roadmaps for local engineering teams.

Job description

Please note that working from the customer's office is required 3 days per week.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands‑on background in software engineering with skills in system design, API design and cloud‑native patterns
• Showcase of a proven track record designing and delivering scalable secure enterprise systems
• 5+ years of experience as a Lead/Principal Engineer, working with high-level, ambiguous or shifting requirements and translating them into pragmatic technical direction
• Background in solution architecture is a plus
• Experience operating within complex, highly regulated or governance‑heavy environments requiring transparency, process and clear documentation
• Capability to grasp complex Group‑level technical strategies and translate them into actionable roadmaps for local engineering teams
• Familiarity with working independently to create structure, clarity and direction
• Understanding of collaborative, team‑oriented decision‑making in architecture
• Competency in challenging status‑quo processes and designing efficient ways to achieve business goals
• Fluency in English and cultural awareness to navigate a multinational enterprise
