Purpose

We are recruiting Junior Professionals to take on operational roles within OPS. If you are selected, you will receive more information about the team that best matches your profile.

As a Junior Professional, You Will
  • Receive a 3-year contract, with the possibility to extend up to 4 years.
  • Move to another OPS team after 12–18 months, depending on business needs.
  • Gain hands‑on experience from day one, working on real tasks and projects.
  • Take part in a dedicated OPS induction, in addition to the Bank’s general orientation.
  • Learn directly from experienced colleagues who will act as your mentors.
  • Access a wide range of free in‑house training to support your development and growth.
Operating Network

You will be joining an operational team within OPS, the EIB’s largest directorate, with around 760 colleagues across six departments.

Across These Teams, OPS Is Responsible For
  • Supporting and delivering projects across the EU.
  • Turning the Bank’s annual plan into concrete actions.
  • Managing funds that help finance EIB activities.
  • Advising public authorities and project promoters using EU funds.

This environment will give you the chance to work on projects that have real impact, while building strong experience at the start of your career. OPS is the EIB’s client‑facing directorate, responsible for the origination and execution of projects inside of the European Union and for delivering the bank’s business plan (“Operational Plan”) in line with priorities defined by its shareholders, the EU’s 27 Member States. In addition, OPS is responsible for the mobilisation and management of third‑party funds (mandates) in support of EIB activities and coordinates and provides advisory services to project promoters and managing authorities receiving EU budgetary funds.

Accountabilities
  • Assisting in the identification, appraisal, approval and closing of suitable projects to develop a portfolio of operations to support the relevant business plan.
  • Drafting client briefings, reports, presentations and contributing to external communication and institutional events.
  • Providing support to the team in implementing the day‑to‑day operations.
  • Undertaking financial analysis and due diligence on projects to develop impact.
  • Providing analytics, research or other professional support as required.

On occasion, you may have the opportunity to accompany senior colleagues in client‑facing meetings and negotiations abroad.

Qualifications
  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in a relevant field of studies such as Business Administration, Banking, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering or another related subject. A Master’s degree would be an advantage.
  • No more than 2 years of prior professional experience on the day of your application, preferably gained in a financial institution, an international organization, a public or private entity in the field of banking, or finance.
  • Experience in a lending environment would be considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge or experience in financial analysis would be considered an advantage.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with focus on Excel.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (***), with a good command of the other. For this specific campaign native‑speaking level in the following languages would be an advantage: German, Danish, Slovakian, Slovenian, Hungarian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Swedish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Finnish.

As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre‑requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The Bank offers appropriate training support.
