Job summary

HSBC is hiring for a Crypto Engineer to strengthen cryptographic controls across platforms and services in Poland. You will support a range of cryptography initiatives, including assessments, analysis, testing and troubleshooting across certificate lifecycle management, SSH key discovery, and HSMs.

You will work with a small team to drive secure-by-design outcomes, automate processes, and contribute to post-quantum readiness activities in a dynamic banking environment.

Qualifications

Solid understanding of encryption, signing, certificates and cipher algorithms.
Experience with Windows and Unix operating systems in enterprise contexts.
Hands-on with VMware, Linux/Windows infra, networks and security controls.
Automation experience with Terraform, Ansible and scripting (Python).
Familiarity with GitHub, Jenkins and software release tooling.
Knowledge of SQL databases and RBAC/Privileged Access Management.
Familiarity with ServiceNow and RFC-driven change management.
Interest in cryptography and post-quantum readiness activities.
Strong collaboration and debugging skills in a small engineering team.

Responsibilities

Contribute to cryptography initiatives and secure-by-design outcomes.
Assist with PKI lifecycle management and certificate operations.

Join our Crypto Engineering team, where we help protect the organisation by strengthening cryptographic controls across platforms and services. As a Crypto Engineer, you’ll support a range of cryptography initiatives, contributing to assessments, analysis, testing and troubleshooting across certificate lifecycle management, SSH key discovery, HSMs and post-quantum cryptography topics.

What You’ll Do

Support cryptography initiatives across the wider Crypto Engineering team, contributing to secure-by-design outcomes
Participate in assessments covering PKI certificate lifetime management and certificate operations
Assist with SSH key discovery and related control improvements across estate
Contribute to HSM testing and validation activities to ensure cryptographic services are robust and reliable
Provide input on post-quantum cryptography-related considerations, impacts and readiness activities
Work closely with a small team of engineers to share ideas, challenge assumptions and improve solutions
Perform technical analysis, debugging and investigation to resolve cryptography-related issues efficiently
Identify opportunities to improve ways of working through automation and process enhancements

What you need to have to succeed in this role

Solid understanding of core cryptography concepts including encryption/decryption, signing, certificates, and symmetric and asymmetric algorithms
Good working knowledge of Windows and Unix operating systems
Experience across infrastructure technologies such as VMware, Windows and Linux infrastructure, databases, firewalls and networks
Hands‑on experience with automation and tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, Python, Splunk and Postman
Understanding of software release management and deployment tools such as GitHub and Jenkins
Working knowledge of databases, particularly Microsoft SQL
Identity and Access Management understanding including RBAC and Privileged Access Management
Experience with service management processes and tools such as ServiceNow and change management using RFCs

What we offer

The pay range for this role is 11,834 PLN - 17,750PLN (monthly, gross).

Variable pay is discretionary, but influenced by Group performance, business/function performance and individual performance.
