Join Canonical as an Engineering Manager, MAAS (Metal as a Service) and help us build the world’s best bare‑metal infrastructure platform. Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software, operating systems, and cloud‑native infrastructure, with the Ubuntu platform at its core.
Location
This is a work‑from‑anywhere position available in EMEA or the Americas.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead a distributed team of engineers, organising work by geographic time zone (Americas, EMEA, etc.)
- Mentor and develop team members through coaching, feedback, and career planning
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate modern software development practices and continuously improve delivery processes
- Participate in architectural and code reviews and promote best practices across the MAAS stack
- Engage with broader Canonical teams, the open‑source community, partners, and external events
- Travel to internal and external global events for 4–6 weeks per year
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field
- Proven experience delivering software using Python, Go, or similar languages
- Strong background in Linux system administration (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
- Familiarity with modern Linux cloud technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes
- Experience with agile software development methodologies
- Exceptional academic track record at university and graduate school
- Excellent written and spoken English; strong presentation skills
- Ability to mentor, develop, and support team members in a technical leadership role
- Result‑oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments and deliver high‑quality software
- Will travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
