Qualifications

  • Familiarity with modern Linux cloud technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies.
  • Exceptional academic track record at university and graduate school.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor, develop, and support team members in a technical leadership role.
  • Result‑oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments and deliver high‑quality software.
  • Will travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to internal and external global events for 4–6 weeks per year.

Join Canonical as an Engineering Manager, MAAS (Metal as a Service) and help us build the world’s best bare‑metal infrastructure platform. Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software, operating systems, and cloud‑native infrastructure, with the Ubuntu platform at its core.

Location

This is a work‑from‑anywhere position available in EMEA or the Americas.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead a distributed team of engineers, organising work by geographic time zone (Americas, EMEA, etc.)
  • Mentor and develop team members through coaching, feedback, and career planning
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocate modern software development practices and continuously improve delivery processes
  • Participate in architectural and code reviews and promote best practices across the MAAS stack
  • Engage with broader Canonical teams, the open‑source community, partners, and external events
