Job summary

HCL Technologies Limited is seeking a DevOps SME for Mainframe Modernization to lead complex migration projects, transitioning legacy SCMs to contemporary toolchains on IBM z/OS. You will work with Fortune 500 clients, guiding migration lifecycles and providing deep technical expertise across DBB, GIT, and IDD.

You will leverage Groovy/YAML and CI/CD practices to ensure smooth transitions, while delivering customer-facing training and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/IT or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in Systems Programming or similar role.
• 4+ years of customer-facing consulting experience.
• Hands-on IBM z/OS environment experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead migration projects from Endevor/SCMs to DBB/GIT/IDD with minimal business disruption.
• Install/configure/troubleshoot DBB, GIT, IDD on mainframe systems.
• Analyze/convert/validate Endevor apps to modern equivalents; manage migration lifecycle.
• Provide advanced support for DBB/GIT/IDD issues.
• Deliver training and materials on DBB, Git, IDD, and migration best practices.
• Coordinate with IBM teams and clients to align objectives and drive success.
• Maintain documentation of migration processes and solutions for knowledge sharing.
• Assist clients in diagnosing errors in SCM conversions and DevOps pipelines.

Overview of the Role

As a DevOps Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Mainframe Modernization, you will lead critical migration projects, modernizing client environments by transitioning legacy Source Code Management (SCM) systems to contemporary DevOps toolchains. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless transitions for Fortune 500 clients, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing deep technical expertise in IBM z/OS environments. Your work will directly contribute to HCLTech’s mission of driving digital transformation and operational excellence for its clients.

Detailed Responsibilities

• Lead and support migration projects from Endevor and other SCMs to DBB/GIT/IDD, ensuring successful delivery and minimal business disruption.
• Oversee installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of DBB, GIT, and IDD solutions on customer mainframe systems.
• Analyze, convert, and validate Endevor applications to their modern equivalents, managing the end-to-end migration lifecycle.
• Provide advanced technical support, including problem determination and resolution for DBB/GIT/IDD-related issues.
• Deliver training sessions and develop comprehensive presentation materials for customers on DBB, Git, IDD, and migration best practices.
• Work closely with IBM teams and client stakeholders to align on objectives, resolve challenges, and drive project success.
• Maintain accurate documentation of migration processes, best practices, and technical solutions for ongoing knowledge sharing and process improvement.
• Assist clients in diagnosing and resolving errors related to SCM conversions and DevOps pipelines.

Skill Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 8 years of experience as a Systems Programmer or in a similar role.
• At least 4 years of customer-facing consulting experience.
• Experience in development, application lifecycle management, or change management is a strong plus.
• Proven expertise as an Application Developer or Systems Programmer, with hands‑on experience in IBM z/OS environments.
• Demonstrated success in installing and migrating software solutions on mainframe systems.
• Strong working knowledge of Groovy scripting, YAML, GIT (including repositories, branching strategies), and CI/CD pipeline debugging.
• Experience with mainframe modernization initiatives, particularly around SCM, DBB, GIT, and IDD.
• Advanced problem‑solving skills for complex technical issues related to SCM and DevOps toolchains.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Proven customer interfacing experience, including conducting training and delivering technical presentations.
• Strong organizational and analytical abilities, with attention to detail in documentation and process management.

• Self‑motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a global team.
• Prior experience in mainframe-to-DevOps transformation programs will be highly advantageous.
