Job summary

Payabl is seeking a DevOps Engineer to scale our infrastructure and support the Data engineering team in delivering secure, automated data-driven solutions. You will collaborate with Banking, Payments, and payabl.one teams to enable faster, more reliable releases across our global payments platform.

The role emphasizes Kubernetes, IaC, CI/CD, and security, with cross-functional collaboration across global offices. Excellent English communication and a customer-centric mindset are essential.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) and cloud platforms.
  • Provision infrastructure and manage configurations with Ansible, Terraform, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Strong knowledge of Data lake services on AWS (Glue, Athena).
  • Linux experience: Bash, Python, Perl; multiple distributions (Debian/Ubuntu/RHEL).
  • Experience automating CI/CD pipelines, especially Jenkins.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Kubernetes clusters and deploy apps with Helm using code-first infrastructure as code.
  • Collaborate with other teams to identify platform pain points and problems.
  • Develop tools and frameworks to improve data platforms.
  • Design, develop, and implement CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and GitLab.

Job description

The role is about:
As a DevOps Engineer at payabl., you will play a key role in building and scaling our infrastructure while collaborating across multiple product teams. Your primary focus will be supporting the Data engineering team, ensuring robust, automated, and secure delivery of data-driven solutions. At the same time, you’ll work closely with Banking, Payments, and payabl.one teams to enable faster, more reliable releases and provide the foundations for innovation across our global payments platform. This role is highly cross-functional, giving you the opportunity to influence how teams build, deploy, and operate products at scale.

Location: Portugal, Poland fully remote. Cyprus Hybrid in Limassol Office.
What you will do:

  • Building and maintaining our Kubernetes clusters, (not just creating tools and also deploying apps with Helm), but the emphasis is on being able to do this in a code-first way: infrastructure as code .
  • Work closely with other teams to identify pain points and problems around the platform.
  • Develop new tools and frameworks to improve data platforms.
  • Manage CI/CD. Design, develop, and implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure issues using tools like Prometheus, Grafana.
  • Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Participate in code reviews and help teammates with constructive feedback.

What we need:

  • At least 5 years of experience with containerization technology (Kubernetes, Docker) and cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in provisioning infrastructure and managing configurations with tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Strong knowledge of Data lake services on AWS (Glue, Athena).
  • Linux experience: troubleshooting, Bash/Python/Perl scripting, familiarity with multiple distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL).
  • Experience developing automation for CI/CD pipelines, especially Jenkins.
  • Good to have Kafka knowledge.
  • Desire to learn and participate in coaching junior members of the team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding attention to details.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • A customer-centric, empathetic mindset with excellent listening skills.

Hiring Process:

  • Step 1 – Thinking in Action (40 minutes) Your first conversation will be with our Talent Acquisition team. As part of this discussion, you'll also complete a short technical screening that will be reviewed by our engineering team. This stage helps us understand both your experience and how you approach technical challenges.
  • Step 2 – Build in Production (60–90 minutes) Meet with the Team Lead and technical experts for a practical assessment. Depending on the role, this may involve a live coding exercise or a real-world scenario designed to evaluate your technical skills, problem-solving approach, and ability to work through challenges similar to those faced by our teams.
  • Step 3 – Final Interview (45 minutes) The final stage is a group interview with senior members of our Technology squad, which may include the CTO, CPO, and Team Lead. Together, we'll discuss team fit, collaboration style, expectations from both sides, and any remaining questions about the role, team, or technology domain. This is also an opportunity for you to learn more about our culture and ways of working.
