Job description

ASI started with a simple vision - build Google Maps for the skies. Our mission-critical technology now powers decision-making across major airlines, the U.S. Department of Defense, and other critical infrastructure domains. Backed by top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Spark Capital, and Renegade Partners, ASI delivers operational decision superiority—compressing days of analysis into seconds of action. ASI is leading the way and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

What you will do:

As a Database Application Architect, you will be the technical leader ensuring that engineering teams use PostgreSQL/AWS Aurora in an optimal, scalable, and safe way as we grow our product footprint across mission-critical environments. This is not a DBA role—your focus is on how applications should use the database, not on administering infrastructure.

You will design application-side database patterns, guide teams on proper schema design and query modeling, and prevent outages by ensuring developers understand how to work effectively with relational systems at scale. You’ll partner closely with backend, platform, and SRE teams to architect robust data-access layers, improve performance across query paths, and introduce best practices around migrations, indexing, and data lifecycle.

You’ll also build internal tooling, documentation, and training that help engineers avoid pitfalls and ship database-backed features with confidence.

What we value

Mastery of PostgreSQL/ AWS Aurora from an application-development perspective, including query planning, indexing strategies, schema design, performance tuning, and transaction management

Experience architecting data-access layers and guiding engineering teams on efficient use of relational databases

Expertise in geospatial data and PostGIS, including optimizing spatial queries, indexing strategies for geospatial workloads, and architecting solutions for large-scale geospatial datasets

Strong knowledge of ORM behaviors, application-layer caching patterns, and common anti-patterns that impact DB scale or reliability

Ability to solve and prevent production incidents by analyzing query load, access patterns, and system bottlenecks

Familiarity with modern backend languages and frameworks (e.g., Python 3, Go, Java, or similar)

Understanding of cloud environments and managed database services (AWS RDS / Aurora, monitoring, observability)

Collaborative mindset and ability to work across multiple teams, influencing without authority

Flexibility to adjust to changing business priorities in a rapidly evolving, mission-critical environment

What we offer
