Job summary

Zebra Technologies is seeking a Senior Computer Vision Software Developer to join the Core Smart Camera Software team. What We're Looking For:

The Senior Computer Vision Software Developer will work on the software platform powering Zebra's fixed industrial smart cameras and the desktop application. Operating within the Core Smart Camera Software team, you will contribute to two closely related, cross-platform native codebases: the on-device runtime engine (a Linux daemon handling device lifecycle, IPC, and vision job execution) and the core machine-vision tools integration library. This role requires a blend of systems-level, performance-sensitive modern C++ close to hardware and service-oriented backend architecture to turn core algorithms into high-quality, product-ready code. We are looking for an innovative system-level thinker and problem solver with a strong creator instinct who expertly leverages agentic AI tools to accelerate coding, keeping your focus where it belongs: on robust architecture, real-time optimization, and high-quality software design. Working under minimal day-to-day instruction, you will determine approaches to complex solutions independently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Establishes requirements and prioritizes features for moderately complex, cross-platform native software projects (specifically our on-device runtime engine and vision tools integration library) to ensure the most impactful capabilities are implemented first.
• Completes all phases of software design and development, turning core algorithms into high-performance, product-ready tools using modern C++ (C++23).
• Leads and participates in code reviews, adhering to strict code-review quality expectations (0 warnings, clang-tidy, clang-format, SonarQube) to proactively identify and address issues early in the development process.
• Explores and applies the latest technologies by actively utilizing, and mentoring others on, agentic AI programming tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate coding and enhance software implementations.
• Reviews and refines existing software designs, specifically optimizing real-time image-processing pipelines and inter-process communication (IPC) running on resource-constrained smart camera hardware.
• Develops tests and create comprehensive documentation to deliver a high-quality product to the market.
• Provides recommendations and solutions to technical problems, leveraging expertise across multiple technical domains (application architecture, hardware boundaries, machine vision).
• May develop custom tools or scripts (e.g., CMake, Python) to streamline cross-compilation, analysis, debugging, or automated testing processes.
• Exercises sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques to deliver effective solutions to complex problems, working with minimal supervision and receiving general guidance on new assignments.
• Provides mentorship and guidance to junior-level personnel.
• Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
• Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Preferred work experience (years): 5+

Key Skills and Competencies:

• Expert proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20/23), multi-threading along with multi-platform build systems (CMake) and dependency management (Conan or vcpkg).
• Strong understanding of software architecture, cross platform development (Linux & Windows), IPC and adopting GenAI / Agentic AI tools in the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Experience with software testing strategies (GTest) and advanced debugging tools for native code (e.g., gdb, valgrind, sanitizers) across various operating systems.
• Ability to evaluate and integrate new technologies into existing solutions, with preferred exposure to machine vision libraries, native-to-scripting bridges (e.g., Node.js N-API), or specific networking and IPC frameworks (e.g., DBus, ZeroMQ, Boost).
• Strong problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to optimize concurrent software and navigate the portability pitfalls of multithreading on target hardware.
• Proficiency with version control systems (Git, GitHub) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to mentor and influence junior team members.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities in a performance-sensitive environment.

Incentive Compensation:

In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 12% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
