We are seeking a candidate for the position of Assistant in the Laboratory of Medical Microbiology. The Laboratory main serves are to supply a reference strains to institutions in Poland and abroad. The laboratory conducts various types of analyses aimed at identifying microorganisms, sequencing the 16S rRNA gene, determining their biochemical profile and determining the level of drug resistance. These studies are performed using MALDI-TOF Ultraflex, MALDI Biotyper Sirius and VITEK 2 Compact. The subject of research are microorganisms such as: Enterobacteriaceae, Streptomyces sp., Mycobacterium sp., other Gram-positive bacteria, yeast-like fungi and bacteriophages.

Skills/Qualifications
The duties of a person employed as an assistant will include the following:
Formal and substantive requirements to be met by the Candidate (in accordance with § 4 section 3 letter k and § 4 section 4 of the Regulations on conducting competitions for scientific positions at IIET PAS)
A candidate applying for a scientific position should demonstrate motivation, teamwork, independence, responsibility, and commitment to completing planned tasks.
In particular, the Candidate should:
a. hold a doctoral degree in the biological sciences, or a related field/discipline;
b. have at least 3 years of research experience in a laboratory with a similar research focus;
c. have knowledge and experience in planning and conducting scientific research in the field of microbiology
d. have knowledge and experience in sterile laboratory work, MALDI-TOF and MALDI Biotyper Sirius spectrometry techniques, methods for identifying and determining the drug resistance of microorganisms using VITEK 2 Compact 15, basic bioinformatics analyses, and the use of basic bioinformatics programs
e. demonstrate active participation in scientific life by presenting the results of their own research in scientific publications. These should include at least one publications with an impact factor, at least two of which should be original publications in which the candidate is the lead author (first/equal to the first). These publications should have been published within the five years before applying;
f. demonstrate participation in mentoring junior research staff;
g. document completed research internships;
h. demonstrate active participation in science promotion;
i. demonstrate fluency in Polish and English, both spoken and written.
Additional skills and experience of the candidate are welcome for the position (in accordance with § 4 section 3 letter l of the Regulations on conducting competitions for scientific positions at IIET PAS).
