Offer Description
Eligible candidates for the competition are those who meet the conditions set forth in Articles 113 and 116 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742, as amended), as well as the Statute of the University of Szczecin, and who fulfill the criteria specified in the competition announcement.
The competition is the first stage of the recruitment process for the position of academic teacher, and its positive outcome constitutes the basis for further proceedings.
- Master's degree in biological sciences.
- Fluency in spoken and written English at least at B2 level.
- Familiarity with IT tools useful in research and teaching.
- Authorship of at least one scientific publication in the field of hydrobiology.
- Documented experience in working in project and organizational teams (including participation in research projects, organization of conferences and scientific events).
- A doctoral dissertation at an advanced stage or, in the case of a planned defense of a collection of articles, at least two published articles included in it.
- Specialist knowledge in the field of hydrobiology and ecology of aquatic macroinvertebrates used in monitoring and assessing the ecological status of waters.
- Experience or training in modern research methods (e.g., genetic species identification techniques – DNA barcoding, molecular analysis).
- Experience in conducting field and laboratory work in the field of environmental sciences, including monitoring of aquatic ecosystems.
- Teaching experience in conducting classes and workshops with students.
- Willingness to pursue further scientific development and to work for the Institute of Biology at the University of Szczecin
Specific Requirements
Candidates should submit the following documents:

- Originals or certified copies of documents confirming the award of a Master’s degree in the discipline of Biological Sciences; if issued in a language other than Polish, the document must also be accompanied by a certified Polish translation and a certificate of equivalence with the Polish academic degree;
- Information on scientific, project-related, teaching, and organisational achievements (including a list of publications), or a statement declaring the absence of such achievements;
- Declaration of meeting the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, as amended) (form available at http://dso.usz.edu.pl/druki/ );
- Statement declaring that the University of Szczecin will be the candidate’s primary place of employment (form available at http://dso.usz.edu.pl/druki/ );
- Consent clause for the processing of personal data in connection with the recruitment procedure, in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation of 27 April 2016 (form available at http://dso.usz.edu.pl/druki/ );
- Information from the National Criminal Register confirming no criminal record with respect to offences specified in Chapters XIX and XXV of the Penal Code, in Articles 189a and 207 of the Penal Code (Journal of Laws 2024, item 17, as amended), as well as under the Act of 29 July 2005 on Counteracting Drug Addiction (Journal of Laws 2023, item 1939, as amended), or with respect to equivalent prohibited acts under foreign law – as required under Article 21 of the Act of 13 May 2016 on Counteracting Threats Posed by Sexual Offences and Protecting Minors (Journal of Laws 2024, item 560);
- In the case of a foreign candidate: 1) information about no criminal record from the criminal register of the country of citizenship obtained for the purposes of professional or voluntary activities related to contact with children; 2) a statement on the country or countries in which they have resided in the last 20 years, other than the Republic of Poland, and information from the criminal records of those countries (form available at: https://bip.usz.edu.pl/zarzadzenie/20384/zarzadzenie-nr-57-2024 , Appendix 1a); 3) a statement of no criminal record if the law of the country from which the information is to be submitted does not provide for its preparation or if no criminal record is kept in that country (form available at: https://bip.usz.edu.pl/zarzadzenie/20384/zarzadzenie-nr-57-2024 , Annex 1b).
Candidates may also submit other documents or provide information they consider useful for the competition. Scanned statements and the employment application must bear the candidate’s handwritten signature.

The postmark date shall determine the date of submission if the application is sent via postal operator. Incomplete applications, applications failing to meet formal requirements, and those submitted after the deadline will not be considered. The Selection Committee may deem it appropriate for the candidate to present their qualifications in person before the Committee. The University does not provide accommodation.
The University reserves the right to close the competition without a decision and without stating the reason.
