Offer Description

The Department of Applied Mathematics at the Faculty of Pure and Applied Mathematics of Wrocław University of Science and Technology is seeking a candidate for the position of assistant (Polish: asystent) in the research and teaching staff group in the discipline of mathematics, specialising in financial and actuarial mathematics. The person hired for this position will be responsible for research, teaching, and organizational duties for the Department of Applied Mathematics, the Faculty of Pure and Applied Mathematics, and Wrocław University of Science and Technology. This offer is for a one-year employment contract with the possibility of extension.

Skills/Qualifications

• a doctoral degree or a submitted PhD dissertation in the discipline of mathematics (Applicants who do not hold a PhD degree are kindly requested to attach confirmation of the submission of their doctoral dissertation);
• scientific achievements in the field of natural catastrophe risk modelling and the valuation of financial instruments linked to such risk, evidenced by articles published in international scientific journals within the last four years (this period is extended for maternity, parental, and similar types of leave);
• teaching competence in conducting courses in mathematics or related disciplines;
• very good command of Polish and English, both spoken and written.

• Self-referral informing about interests and achievements in scientific and research, teaching and organizational activities, including: a concise description of scientific achievements; a list of publications; the total number of citations of scientific works with the source of these data; a list of implemented scientific and research, development and implementation projects; a list of scientific and professional awards and distinctions - the above documents should be signed by the candidate.
• Copies of diplomas (original document for review), a copy of the diploma indicating the possession of a professional title, degree/title.
• Self-referral informing about interests and achievements in scientific and research, teaching and organizational activities, including: a concise description of scientific achievements; a list of publications; the total number of citations of scientific works with the source of these data; a list of implemented scientific and research, development and implementation projects; a list of scientific and professional awards and distinctions - the above documents should be signed by the candidate.
• List of publications.
• List and description of research internships.
• Confirmation of the submission of a doctoral dissertation for candidates who do not hold a doctoral degree.

* In the event of winning the competition by a person who is employed within the framework of an employment relationship with another employer conducting the following activities: research, research and teaching, research and development, implementation (except for cases specified in art. 125 para. 3 of the Act), and this employment does not expire by the date of employment at Wrocław University of Technology as the primary place of work, such person, pursuant to art. 125 para. 1 of the Act, taking into account art. 125 para. 2 of the Act, shall be obliged to obtain the consent of the Rector for additional employment under the employment relationship with another employer after his/her employment at Wrocław University of Technology. In the case of a person who wins the competition, the requirement of Article 125(7) of the Act must be complied with.

Eligibility criteria

Applications from persons sending their documents without indicating a specific reference number and sent after the deadline for submission of offers will not be considered. Applications that do not contain all the required documents will be rejected.

Selection process

1. A successful candidate will be selected by the hiring commitee (the commitee is not bound to select a candidate; in this case the competition remains unresolved).

2. If a candidate is selected, Chairman of the Department of Pure Mathematics will present the candidate to the Council of the Scientific Discipline of Mathematics which then votes on recommending the candidate for hiring to the Rector.

3. On the basis of this voting the Rector of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology makes the final decision to hire the candidate.
