Job summary

Sigma Software is seeking a Principal/Staff Data Platform Engineer to drive architectural decisions and establish engineering standards for a next-generation AI-first data platform in a greenfield AdTech environment.

You will own the platform's foundation, define scalable data flows, and collaborate with senior teams to deliver production-ready capabilities at scale. The role emphasizes governance, observability, and cost-efficient infrastructure across global workloads.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing and operating production-grade data platforms.
• Distributed data systems and high-volume event-driven architectures expertise.
• Modern lakehouse architectures and Apache Iceberg understanding.
• Advanced SQL with production experience in Python, Java, or Scala.
• Experience with Spark, Flink, or Trino for distributed processing.
• Data modeling, partitioning strategies, and performance optimization.
• Proven batch and near-real-time data pipelines experience.
• Hands-on AWS cloud infrastructure experience.
• CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and production observability.
• Experience implementing data contracts, schema evolution, and data quality frameworks.
• Pragmatic architectural decision making in greenfield environments.
• Upper-Intermediate+ English and strong leadership/communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and architecture of a modern enterprise-scale data platform.
• Define scalable data flows from Iceberg storage into analytics and data products.
• Evaluate technologies for orchestration, transformation, querying, serving, and storage.
• Design reusable canonical entities and data models across domains.
• Establish scalable patterns for batch and near-real-time processing.
• Build reliable data pipelines for high-volume AdTech workloads.
• Implement data quality, lineage, observability, and reconciliation capabilities.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering to enforce data contracts and governance.
• Define tenant isolation, access control, and regional data boundary strategies.
• Set standards for testing, deployment automation, schema evolution, and versioning.
• Optimize platform performance, scalability, and infrastructure costs.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence.
• Partner with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
