Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Adjunkt) in the Field of Exact and Natural Sciences, Chemical Sciences, within a postdoctoral OPUS 30 project.

The project combines low-temperature experimental spectroscopy with advanced quantum-chemical calculations to study interstellar-ice analogues, molecular complexes, and clusters. You will work with colleagues at NCU and Wrocław and publish results in scientific journals.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, physics, or related discipline.
• Publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience in analysis of experimental spectroscopic data or in quantum-chemical calculations.
• Ability to combine experiment and theory (spectroscopy and quantum-chemical calculations).
• Programming or scripting for automation of calculations, data processing, and data analysis.
• Very good command of written and spoken English.
• Experience in Unix/Linux environments and HPC is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advanced processing and analysis of FTIR and UV–Vis spectra of matrix-isolated molecules and interstellar-ice analogues.
• Analyze band positions, intensities, and shapes across experimental series; apply deconvolution and difference-spectrum analysis.
• Compare experimental spectra with quantum-chemical predictions to assign spectral bands and structures.
• Perform quantum-chemical calculations (geometry optimisations, vibrational and electronic properties).
• Model effects of intermolecular interactions, aggregation, and local environment on spectra.
• Interpret photochemical processes via spectroscopic and quantum-chemical data.
• Develop and apply tools to automate calculations and data analysis.
• Contribute to libraries of molecular structures and spectra; collaborate with University of Wrocław team.
• Prepare scientific publications and present results at conferences.
