Job summary

Tkxel is seeking a Principal Java Engineer to lead the design and development of scalable, secure enterprise applications from its Reston, VA operation. You will guide architecture, define scalable microservices, and drive cloud-native deployments across AWS/Azure/GCP while mentoring senior engineers.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in Java, strong Spring Boot expertise, and a track record of delivering reliable, high-performance systems with robust API security and observability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience in Java-based development.
• Expertise in Java 17+ and modern Java features.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Spring Security.
• Strong experience designing and implementing microservices and distributed systems.
• Expertise in REST APIs, API security, and enterprise system integrations.
• Strong understanding of OOP, design patterns, SOLID, and clean architecture.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle; NoSQL familiarity.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Understanding of concurrency, JVM internals, memory management, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with CI/CD, testing frameworks, and observability.
• Strong focus on security, scalability, resilience, and fault-tolerant design.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and development of enterprise Java applications.
• Define and implement scalable microservices and distributed systems.
• Drive technical strategy, standards, coding practices, and guidelines.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineers and teams.
• Review code and guide design discussions to ensure quality and maintainability.
• Design and optimize RESTful APIs and integrations.
• Lead database design and data-access strategies.
• Drive performance tuning, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, DevOps, QA and stakeholders.
• Lead cloud-native development and deployment on AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Establish and improve CI/CD pipelines, testing, monitoring, and observability.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and improve engineering ecosystem.
