Job summary

HR POD Careers is seeking a senior backend/integration engineer to build and operate production-grade services on AWS, extending data models and connectors for partner systems. Qualifications

• 6+ years building and operating backend or integration services in production.
• End-to-end ownership from design to shipping and operation.
• AWS serverless and messaging services experience (SQS/SNS, Lambda, S3, EventBridge, Step Functions, API Gateway, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager).
• Strong backend experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Python or similar.
• Go is a plus and learnable for tooling contributions.
• Know-how of integration patterns (idempotency, deduplication, ordering, DLQ, replay, retry).
• Experience with JSON/XML/CSV parsing, validation, transformation, mapping.
• REST APIs design/consumption; SOAP, SFTP, and batch file integration exposure.
• Mentoring/leading engineers and raising engineering standards.
• Strong debugging, root-cause analysis across systems.
• Structured logging, monitoring, observability, and debugging.
• Genuine use of AI tools in real engineering work.
• Production Go experience is a plus; PHP experience for legacy work.
• Transformation language experience (XSLT or DataWeave).
• Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation).
• Streaming/storage tech beyond basics (Kinesis, DynamoDB, OpenSearch).
• Experience with regulated data domains (government/GDPR).
• Experience in AgriTech, IoT, supply-chain, or enterprise integration platforms (MuleSoft, Boomi, Camel) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy and operate event-driven services using AWS (SQS/SNS, Lambda, EventBridge, Step Functions, S3, API Gateway).
• Extend canonical data model and standardise data from multiple sources into a single internal representation.
• Build connectors to ingest from and deliver to partner systems; transform data with validation.
• Design reliable integrations with idempotency, deduplication, ordering, DLQ, replay and retry/backoff.
• Ship VetLink and subsequent integrations end-to-end, including ops runbooks.
• Maintain and modernise existing integrations, including government/compliance APIs and legacy PHP components.
• Review PRs, set engineering standards, mentor mid-level engineers and support their growth.
• Build systems with strong logging, monitoring, observability, and debugging capabilities.
• Investigate production issues across multiple systems and trace failures to root cause.
• Hands-on use of AI tools with sound judgment on value.
