Job summary

ACCA Careers is seeking a senior accounting professional with ACCA qualifications to lead UK-based client engagements, manage teams, and uphold rigorous reporting standards for SMEs and contractors.

You will oversee bookkeeping, VAT returns, and financial reporting, ensuring accurate records across QuickBooks Online, Xero, and cloud platforms, while driving efficiency with Karbon, Asana, and ClickUp.

Qualifications

• ACCA qualification or equivalent strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the accounting practice.
• Lead, manage, and supervise a team of accountants and junior staff.
• Review work to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality standards.
• Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to team members.
• Allocate work and manage workloads to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Manage bookkeeping, VAT returns, and accounting records for UK-based clients (SMEs, contractors, and businesses).
• Prepare and review management accounts, financial reports, and supporting schedules.
• Ensure accurate maintenance of client financial records across QuickBooks Online, Xero, and other systems.
• Handle bank and credit card reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Oversee integration and usage of accounting software with internal systems.
• Maintain and standardize Chart of Accounts across clients and platforms.
• Improve internal workflows using Karbon, Asana, and ClickUp.
• Ensure efficient documentation and process adherence across the team.
• Monitor project accounting and provide financial insights to support business decisions.
• Ensure timely reporting and delivery of client work within deadlines.
• Support senior management in financial planning and operational improvements.

Experience Required: Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in a UK-based accounting practice, including team management and client handling responsibilities.

Qualifications

• ACCA Qualified / ACCA Affiliate / Part Qualified (preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a UK/Canada-based accounting firm (UK experience strongly preferred)
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting, VAT, and tax regulations
• Proven experience in managing teams and supervising junior staff
• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, and other cloud-based systems
