Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in physics, electrical or electronic engineering, materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, computer science, or a related discipline, with at least one year of relevant research or laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experimental, theoretical, or computational research aligned with the objectives of the Laboratory for Nanophysics.
• Assist in the design, construction, testing, and optimisation of research equipment and experimental setups.
• Perform experiments involving nano-optics, magneto-optics, spintronics, ultrafast and terahertz spectroscopy, quantum sensing, quantum materials, or related areas, as required by the assigned project.
• Assist in the growth, fabrication, preparation, and characterisation of quantum materials, thin films, heterostructures, and nanoscale devices, where applicable.
• Develop and implement analytical models, numerical simulations, data-processing routines, machine-learning methods, or quantum algorithms, where relevant.
• Operate laboratory instruments and support their routine maintenance, calibration, and performance verification.
• Analyse experimental or computational data using appropriate software and prepare technical reports, presentations, and research documentation.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, equipment logs, experimental databases, codes, and inventories of components and consumables.
• Contribute to research manuscripts, grant proposals, patent applications, technical documentation, and other project deliverables.
• Support the training and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, interns, and visiting researchers.
• Assist with laboratory demonstrations, workshops, outreach activities, and services provided to external researchers or collaborating institutions.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety requirements, research ethics, quality-assurance procedures, and institutional policies.
• Perform any other research-related duties assigned by the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigators.

Job description

The Research Associates will support the Laboratory for Nanophysics' research activities through experimental, theoretical, or computational work, as appropriate to the assigned project. The Research Associates will contribute to research in areas including nano-optics, spintronics, magnetism, ultrafast and terahertz spectroscopy, quantum materials, quantum sensing and measurement, quantum thermodynamics, and AI and quantum algorithms. The position may involve developing experimental setups and scientific instruments, conducting measurements and simulations, analysing data, maintaining research documentation, and disseminating research outcomes.

Note: This is a contractual, PSDP project-based position.

Qualification

Minimum qualification required for this position:

Bachelor’s degree in physics, electrical or electronic engineering, materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, computer science, or a related discipline, with at least one year of relevant research or laboratory experience. Experience in optics, lasers, electronics, instrumentation, quantum materials, condensed-matter physics, scientific computing, machine learning, or quantum technologies will be preferred, depending on the assigned research area.
