Job description

Horizon Tech is seeking a Pre-Press Specialist. As a Pre-Press Specialist you will be responsible for preparing digital artwork and print‑ready files, ensuring color accuracy, managing file workflows, liaising with designers and production teams, and maintaining high standards from concept to final output. You will play a key role in ensuring our projects are executed flawlessly, on time, and to the exacting standards our clients expect.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive artwork and briefs from design teams or clients; review for completeness, resolution, color mode, bleed, size, layering, spot colours, trapping, etc.
  • Prepare and optimise files for large format printing (e.g., wide format, roll‑to‑roll, rigid substrates), ensuring correct file formats, color profiles, imposition, tiling, scaling, etc.
  • Work closely with our G7‑Master certified color team to ensure colour consistency across materials and devices.
  • Perform quality checks on files prior to printing visual proofing, PDF proofing, pre‑flight checks, fix issues or liaise with design/clients for revisions.
  • Manage and maintain file assets in our pre‑press workflow system; ensure version control, file archival, naming conventions, project documentation.
  • Collaborate with production/fabrication teams to understand substrate specifications, finishing processes (cutting, laminating, mounting) and adjust files accordingly.
  • Identify opportunities for optimisation (file size, print efficiency, waste reduction) and value engineering whilst maintaining quality.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, sustainability practices and environmental guidelines in all pre‑press work.
  • Provide technical support and advice to design client teams regarding print‑capable artwork, colour spaces (CMYK, Pantone, RGB => print), file formats (PDF/X, EPS, TIFF), bleed/margins, raster vs vector.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards, emerging media, RIP software, colour management tools and large‑format print workflows.
Required Qualifications / Skills
  • 4+ years of pre‑press or large‑format print production experience (ideally in graphics, signage, exhibition or retail environments).
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), PDF workflows, pre‑flight tools, RIP and large‑format print file preparation.
  • Excellent understanding of colour management, ICC profiles, skilled at reading and interpreting technical specifications such as substrate types, bleed, trim, file formats, mounting/finishing.
  • Detail‑oriented, strong organisation and file management skills. Able to manage multiple projects with deadlines. Good communicator: able to liaise effectively with designers, clients, production/fabrication teams.
  • Problem‑solver: proactive in identifying issues, proposing solutions, continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment, with high standards for quality.
