The International Rescue Committee is initiating a short-term nutrition focused project funded by UNICEF. The initial duration of the project is 4 months with possible further extension. The project will contribute to improving the nutrition service delivery and outreach in seven districts of Punjab province.

The Nutrition Facilitator will be based in one of the seven target districts (Multan, Khanewal, Layyah, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran and Rahim Yar Khan) and will work as part of the community outreach team to conduct malnutrition screening at village and household level, following CMAM/MUAC protocols. The role includes door-to-door and village level screening, referring malnourished children to OTP/Health facility for treatment, providing counseling sessions to mother and father groups, and maintaining follow up and tracking records. The Nutrition Facilitator will work closely with the IYCF Counselor and Community Outreach Worker as part of a three-member outreach team and will report to the respective Program Officer / Project Manager.

Major Responsibilities:
Community Screening
  • Conduct malnutrition screening at community outreach villages, through door-to-door visits and at village level screening sessions.
  • Screen children using MUAC tape and check for bilateral pitting oedema, following CMAM protocols.
  • Identify and record children who are malnourished or at risk based on screening results.
Referral
  • Refer children identified with acute malnutrition to the nearest health facility or OPT/SC site for treatment.
  • Explain referral process clearly to caregivers and encourage them to attend the facility on time.
  • Coordinate with health facility staff to confirm referred children are received and enrolled.
Counseling
  • Provide counseling sessions to communities, including separate sessions for mother groups and father groups, on child nutrition and care practices.
  • Support awareness sessions on early signs of malnutrition and importance of timely screening.
  • Work together with the IYCF Counselor to reinforce key feeding and care messages during community sessions.
Follow Up Reporting
  • Conduct follow up visits for children who were referred, to check on their treatment progress and attendance.
  • Track defaulters and children who are not improving and refer them back for further support.
  • Maintain accurate records of screening, referral, and follow up activities for each village.
  • Submit regular reports to the District Project Officer on outreach activities and screening results.
  • Ensure data is complete and correct before submission.
Team Coordination
  • Work as part of a three-member outreach team, together with the IYCF Counselor and Community Outreach Worker, to plan and carry out joint outreach activities.
  • Coordinate with team members to divide villages and households for screening coverage.
  • Report progress and any challenges to the District Program Officer on a regular basis.
Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: District Program Officer and coordinates with outreach teams and the technical supervisor.

Job Requirements:
  • a) Education: Bachelors. Certificate or training in nutrition or community health will be an advantage.
  • b) Work Experience: Minimum 2-3 year work experience. At least 1 year of experience working in nutrition or health programs, preferably with an NGO in community-based nutrition programs. Prior experience in CMAM/MUAC screening or community outreach work will be preferred.
  • Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
  • Good understanding of MUAC screening and CMAM protocols.
  • Strong communication skills to work with mother and father groups and community members.
  • Ability to travel to villages and conduct door-to-door visits.
  • Good record keeping and follow up skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a small team
  • Willingness to travel extensively within community/outreach areas, including on foot where needed.
  • Commitment to IRC's core values, humanitarian principles, and child safeguarding policy.
