Job summary

Tkxel in Reston, Virginia, invites an experienced Principal Software Engineer to lead design and evolution of scalable, resilient enterprise systems. You will mentor teams, guide architecture, and hands-on implement with Java, Spring Boot, and modern microservices patterns.

You will collaborate with architects, DevOps, and data teams to deliver secure, observable solutions while focusing on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability across IoT and data-driven domains.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including leadership/architecture focus.
• Strong command of Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, JPA/Hibernate, RESTful API design.
• Solid understanding of concurrency, JVM performance tuning, design patterns, and functional programming in Java.
• Hands-on with microservices, API gateways, distributed systems, and service-to-service communication.
• Experience with distributed tracing and monitoring tools (Zipkin, Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Cloud-native experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP; Kubernetes experience preferred.
• Exposure to IoT protocols such as MQTT or CoAP is a plus.
• Familiarity with Kafka and real-time data streaming.

Responsibilities

• Design and contribute to modular, resilient architectures using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and microservices.
• Apply domain-driven design and event-driven patterns to improve scalability and maintainability.
• Provide guidance on JVM behavior, GC, threading, and performance optimization.
• Support performance profiling, memory leak analysis, and optimization across services.
• Architect and implement real-time data ingestion with Kafka, MQTT, WebSockets, or gRPC.
• Collaborate with data engineering/AI teams to define APIs and data contracts for analytics.
• Promote observability, tracing, and monitoring across distributed services.
• Mentor engineers on system design and maintainable engineering practices.
