Job summary

Role Description

Atta Chemicals is seeking a Chemist for its Sulphate of Potash (SOP) and Sulphuric Acid plants.

The Chemist will be responsible for raw-material testing, in-process quality control, finished-product analysis, laboratory documentation, and supporting process-quality requirements across the plant.

As the SOP plant is a new operation, the selected candidate will also assist in establishing and implementing laboratory testing procedures, sampling practices, QC documentation, and routine analytical methods for SOP production.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory analysis of Sulphate of Potash (SOP), Sulphuric Acid, MOP/KCl, and other relevant raw materials and process samples.
• Perform routine testing of SOP parameters including potassium content/K₂O, chloride, moisture, acidity/free acid, insoluble matter, and other relevant quality parameters.
• Perform routine analysis of Sulphuric Acid, including concentration/purity, specific gravity, and relevant impurity testing.
• Collect samples from designated production and process points as required.
• Carry out in-process testing and promptly report deviations from required specifications.
• Monitor finished-product quality and ensure compliance with defined standards.
• Prepare standard solutions, reagents, and laboratory samples accurately.
• Maintain laboratory test reports, QC registers, batch records, calibration logs, reagent records, and related documentation.
• Prepare or support preparation of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) where required.
• Maintain retention samples and appropriate sample identification records.
• Ensure calibration, cleanliness, proper operation, and routine maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Work closely with production personnel to troubleshoot quality-related and process-related issues.
• Assist in establishing and improving laboratory SOPs, testing methods, sampling procedures, and quality-control systems.
• Maintain adequate stock of laboratory chemicals, reagents, glassware, standards, and consumables.
• Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with plant and laboratory safety procedures.
• Support continuous improvement of product quality, process control, and laboratory practices.

Qualifications

• BS or MSc in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 2–5 years of relevant industrial laboratory experience is preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in fertilizer, potash, inorganic chemicals, sulphuric acid, or continuous-process chemical manufacturing plants.
• Strong understanding of analytical chemistry and industrial quality-control procedures.
• Hands‑on experience with chemical titration, solution preparation, sampling, and routine laboratory testing.
• Familiarity with laboratory instruments such as pH meters, conductivity meters, moisture ovens, spectrophotometers, flame photometers, weighing balances, and other analytical equipment will be an advantage.
• Knowledge of calibration procedures and laboratory documentation.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• High attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
• Basic computer proficiency for laboratory reporting and documentation.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with production, operations, maintenance, and management teams.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety and safe chemical‑handling practices.

Additional Requirements

• Male candidates only.
• Normal working hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
• The role may occasionally require sampling or laboratory support outside normal working hours during plant start‑up, shutdown, troubleshooting, or production‑related requirements.
• The position involves both laboratory work and plant‑floor sampling/coordination.
