Job description

We’re looking for a Java Engineer with a DevOps and observability mindset to help enhance and modernize our monitoring ecosystem as we transition from Splunk to New Relic. You will play a key role in building high‑performing Java applications with strong instrumentation, visibility, and automation integrated into our delivery pipelines.

This role requires hands‑on experience in Java development, event-driven systems, and DevOps automation, with a focus on enabling deep system observability and performance insight.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build and manage APIs and event‑driven services using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
  • Implement application instrumentation for logs, metrics, and traces using New Relic and Splunk.
  • Lead or support the migration of application telemetry, dashboards, and alerts from Splunk to New Relic.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to embed monitoring and alerting into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Automate observability configurations and deployments using Terraform, Python, or Bash.
  • Develop dashboards, alerts, and service‑level indicators to proactively monitor application health.
  • Integrate monitoring and alerting with incident management tools such as PagerDuty, Opsgenie, or Slack.
  • Deploy and manage Java workloads on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Ensure consistent logging and monitoring practices across all microservices.
  • Participate in Agile or Kanban sprints, contributing to planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
Requirements
  • 5–8/7-10 years of hands‑on experience in Java (Java 8+) and Spring Boot development.
  • Proven experience with Splunk (search queries, dashboards, alerts) and New Relic (APM, Infrastructure, NRQL).
  • Strong understanding of observability pillars — logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Experience with event‑driven systems and messaging technologies like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Practical experience integrating observability into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI).
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, YAML) for automation and deployment workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
  • Experience deploying and monitoring applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for containerized and microservices environments.
  • Experience with Git workflows (branching, merging, conflict resolution).
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization skills.
  • Exposure to incident management and SLO/SLI‑based observability practices.
  • (Nice to have) Prior involvement in Splunk to New Relic migration initiatives.
  • (Nice to have) Knowledge of other observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, or ELK stack.
