World Bank Group is seeking an Investment Officer, Trade Finance in Karachi to lead the Pakistan portion of IFC’s GTFP and MIGA’s engagement. The role splits time 50/50 between IFC and MIGA activities, developing banking relationships and expanding GTFP coverage in the country.

MIGA and IFC have entered into Framework Agreements for IFC’s Global Trade Finance Program (GTFP) and Global Trade Liquidity Program (GTLP) programs. These Framework Agreements expand the scope of IFC’s trade platforms to cover both private sector and public sector issuing banks. Pakistan represents an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional to both develop IFC’s existing trade finance programs with private sector banks and expand partnerships with the public sector banks. Given the close cooperation between MIGA and IFC to expand the WBG’s trade finance business as well as the need for MIGA to maintain an on-the-ground presence to cover MIGA’s other activities, the selected candidate will split their time 50/50 between IFC and MIGA operations.
The individual will report to MIGA’s Regional Head, based in Colombo, but will have a dotted line report to IFC’s Regional Lead, Trade and Supply Chain Finance (CTS) Regional Lead covering the GTFP program.
With respect to the MIGA role, the selected candidate is expected to develop relationships with the State-Owned Banks that engage in trade finance activities; develop and manage, in coordination with DC-based and regional trade teams as well as IFC’s regional and country teams, relationships with the Government; monitor and manage MIGA’s existing portfolio of projects in the country; act as liaison for in-country visits by Senior Management and other staff. The person will be expected to understand products and services offered through the Joint WBG guarantee platform, which also includes WBG partial risk, policy-based and credit guarantees in addition to MIGA’s traditional products.
With respect to the IFC role, CTS provides an opportunity to have exposure to a wide variety of financial products and programs, including partial guarantees, risk-sharing facilities, loans, warehouse financing and other structured products to support trade in emerging markets. The selected candidate would benefit from CTS’ broad network of 400+ financial institutions and Corporates in more than 100 countries across all regions of the globe and will have the opportunity to broaden the internal network, experience and deal sheet as CTS works hand in hand with the Industry Departments at the global and regional level. To date, IFC’s Trade and Supply Chain Finance has supported over $250 billion in global trade, all of which is directly linked to the movement of specific goods and services across emerging market borders.
