Job summary

The Aga Khan University Hospital is seeking a Chief Operating Officer for Stadium Road Hospital to lead strategic, operational, financial and quality management in line with AKUH-HS leadership. Reporting to the CEO, AKU-HS, you will oversee the daily operations of the main hospital, ensure efficient functioning, and deliver high-quality patient care while optimizing operational performance.

Responsibilities

The Aga Khan University Hospital is a not-for-profit healthcare institute that offers all medical services to its patients under one roof. Responsibilities:

The Chief Operating Officer of the Stadium Road hospital will be responsible for its strategic, operational, financial and quality management in accordance with the mission and policies set the by the AKUH-HS leadership. Reporting to the CEO, AKU-HS, you will be responsible to oversee the daily operations of main hospital, ensure that hospital runs efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with strategic goals, deliver high-quality patient care while optimizing operational performance.

Specific responsibilities include to:

• collaborate with the CEO and senior management to develop and execute strategic plans in alignment of vision and mission of the Institution, and maintain a quality surveillance and improvement system across the board
• oversee the daily operations of the hospital, including clinical and non-clinical departments
• develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and standards to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of operations
• work closely with the Chairs and Vice Chairs, Clinical in ensuring that the goals set are met and work with them to develop alternative models of practice and referral links
• promote a culture of continuous improvement and quality assurance, monitor performance metrics and implement initiatives to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and safety
• represent hospital at the board meetings where required, donor functions, community and all other relevant forums, and build strong relationships with stakeholders, including patients, families, staff, and regulatory bodies, and promote the hospital's mission, vision, and values in the community
• anticipate the effect of technological advancements and market competition on the mix of services offered and create and amend the strategies accordingly
• advocate for and oversee the implementation of new technologies and systems to improve hospital operations and patient care, including to ensure the effective use of electronic health records (EHR) and other IT systems
• craft and stimulate strategic alliances with external organizations providing patient services and identify opportunities for growth and improvement in services and patient care delivery
• manage the hospital's budget and ensure financial sustainability, implement cost-control measures and optimize resource utilization without compromising care quality
• work closely with hospital's management team and staff, foster a positive work environment and ensure compliance with HR policies and regulations
• ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care, oversee patient safety programmes and compliance with healthcare regulations and standards, locals laws and accrediting bodies, and prepare for inspections and audits
• lead the hospital's response to emergencies and crises, ensuring continuity of operations and patient care

Requirements:

You should have:

• a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or any other relevant discipline
• at least fifteen years of progressive leadership experience in reputed teaching health care institutions, preferably experience of handling international affairs of a global health care organizations
• familiarity and experience in healthcare quality management and maintain patient-centered services in continual learning for all
• in-depth knowledge of financial management of university teaching hospitals/health systems in developing countries, including techniques in cost effectiveness, advanced methods of budgeting and forecasting , and practice plans
• proven track record of managing complex hospital operations and improving performance
• strong leadership and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to present complex ideas in a more simpler and meaningful form
• strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
• knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards along with financial acumen and expertise with budget management
• ability to drive change and foster a culture of innovation, and lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve strategic goals
• willingness for national and international travels as per needs.
