A welder is a skilled tradesperson who joins, fabricates, and repairs metal parts and structures through the application of heat, pressure, or a combination of both. They work with various types of metals and use a variety of welding techniques depending on the material and the specifications of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welding & Metal Fabrication: Use welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick, or other methods) to join or repair metal parts.
- Cut, shape, and fabricate metal components using tools like saws, grinders, and lathes.
- Blueprint and Specification Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to determine the requirements for the welds and materials needed.
- Inspection & Quality Control: Inspect welds and structures to ensure they meet quality standards, codes, and specifications.
- Perform testing, such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or visual inspections.
- Safety Practices: Follow safety protocols to protect against hazards like burns, electrical shock, and inhalation of toxic fumes.
- Maintain and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
