The Therapeutic Activities Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting children and at-risk teens through structured, trauma-informed activities that promote healing, emotional regulation, and positive youth development. This position works closely with the social work team to reinforce therapeutic goals through movement, creativity, peer connection, and skill-building experiences.

Responsibilities
Therapeutic Activity Facilitation
  • Lead structured, therapeutic activities for children and teens that support emotional, social, and behavioral regulation
  • Create safe, supportive environments that encourage participation, healing, and positive self-expression
  • Deliver activities that align with trauma-informed care principles and reinforce clinical goals
Youth Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Build positive rapport with youth through consistent mentorship and a supportive adult presence
  • Foster trust, belonging, and psychological safety during all sessions
  • Support the development of coping and social skills through guided interactions and structured activities
Movement-Based Regulation
  • Lead body-based regulation activities including sports, team games, grounding exercises, and other movement practices
  • Help teens develop self-regulation skills (breathing, mindfulness, body awareness) through experiential sessions
Creative Expression Activities
  • Facilitate activities such as music, rhythm, storytelling, art-making, and other expressive outlets that support emotional processing
  • Encourage creativity as a tool for communication, stress relief, and resilience
Team-Building & Peer Support
  • Run structured team-building exercises that promote cooperation, trust, and healthy social interaction
  • Facilitate peer-support and trust-building activities to strengthen group cohesion and empathy
Collaboration with the Program Team
  • Co-facilitate group sessions alongside the social worker as part of an integrated therapeutic team
  • Reinforce coping strategies introduced in therapy using interactive, youth-friendly formats
  • Provide observations and feedback to social worker that support ongoing care planning
Job Requirements
Educational Background (Any of the following)
  • Physical Education Teacher
  • Community Worker
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) or related field
Professional Experience
  • Experience in youth facilitation, community work, or NGO programming
  • At least 2 years of experience in community organizing, development work, or family services
  • Proven ability to connect with at-risk, traumatized, or marginalized youth
  • Experience leading group activities, sports, creative sessions, or psycho-social engagement
  • Proficiency with case management systems
Skills & Competencies

Preferred Knowledge & Training

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse community settings
  • Experience in nonprofit or child-focused organizations preferred
