Job summary

Newport World Resorts in Pasay, Metro Manila is seeking an entry-level Theater Tech I to assist in setup, testing, execution, and tear-down of audio, lighting, video, and staging for live performances and events across venues.

You will help with line and sound checks, equipment transport, and backstage support while ensuring safety standards and reliable operation of all technical gear. Flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays are involved.

Qualifications

• Tech-Voc/college degree in AV or related field preferred.
• High School graduate with 2+ years hands-on theater/AV experience considered.
• Experience setting up and tearing down microphones, PA systems, stage lighting, LEDs, or video playback.
• Ability to follow fast-paced stage cues with minimal supervision.
• Willing to work flexible shift rotations including late nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The Theater Tech I is an entry-level technical operational role responsible for assisting in the set-up, testing, execution, and tear-down of technical systems (audio, lighting, video, and staging/rigging) for live performances, corporate events, production shows, and entertainment functions across Newport World Resorts venues. This role ensures all technical equipment operates safely and reliably to deliver a world-class guest and artist experience.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Setup & Strike Operations

• Assist in the physical setup, wiring, patching, and dismantling of audio, lighting, video, LED walls, and staging equipment for theater shows, concerts, and resort events.

• Assist with line checks, sound checks, lighting focus, and video testing prior to rehearsals and live performances.

• Unload, unpack, case, and transport production gear safely to and from storage or loading docks.

Show Run & Execution

• Operate assigned technical consoles, media servers, spot tracks, or backstage equipment during live shows as instructed by the Stage Manager or Technical Lead.

• Serve as a deck hand or backstage technician during performances, assisting with prop placement, quick costume/mic changes, stage resets, and performer cues.

Equipment Maintenance & Asset Care

• Perform routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, cable coiling, and inventory checks of all technical assets and house equipment.

• Inspect gear before and after use; promptly report broken, malfunctioning, or missing equipment to the Technical Lead/Supervisor.

• Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free control booths, stage areas, equipment rooms, and storage spaces.

Safety & Compliance

• Strictly follow property safety policies, emergency procedures, and stage safety protocols (e.g., proper PPE, working at heights, electrical safety).

• Support the implementation of guest and artist safety standards on and around the stage areas.

General Operations

• Collaborate effectively with production staff, stage managers, talent, and cross-functional resort departments (e.g., Housekeeping, Facilities, Security) to ensure seamless event execution.

• Perform other task-related duties as assigned by leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Tech-Voc Graduate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Audio/Video Technology, Technical Theater, Electronics, Broadcasting, or a related field (fresh graduates are welcome to apply).

• High School Graduate (Old Curriculum or K-12) can be considered but with at least 2 years of hands-on experience as an Audio-Visual Technician, Stagehand, or Stage Technician in a theater, live event venue, hotel/resort, or production house.

• Practical experience in setting up and tearing down microphones, PA systems, stage lighting fixtures, LED displays, or video playback units.

• Ability to follow fast-paced stage cues and instructions under minimal supervision during live shows.

• Willing to work on a flexible shift rotation, including late nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the venue's event schedule.
