Role Overview
The Technical R&D Officer - Product Development & Commercialization is responsible for supporting the development, validation, commercialization, and continuous improvement of new and existing food products. The role executes product trials, process validation, material evaluations, and technical documentation while working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure products are successfully transitioned into commercial production. The position helps ensure products consistently meet quality, food safety, operational, and cost objectives across commissary and restaurant operations.
Key Responsibilities
A. Product Development & Commercialization
- Support the development, reformulation, and commercialization of new and existing products.
- Conduct product development, benchmark, pilot, and production trials to validate product quality, functionality, and manufacturability.
- Assist in scaling products from kitchen development to commercial commissary production.
- Support new product launches by ensuring technical requirements are completed prior to implementation.
B. Process Validation & Production Support
- Execute process validation activities to establish production parameters, yields, and quality standards.
- Conduct production trials to verify process capability and product consistency.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical and production issues during product implementation.
- Support process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, consistency, and operational performance.
C. Recipe Standardization & Technical Documentation
Prepare, maintain, and update:
- Standardized Recipes
- Process Flow
- Finished Product Specifications
- Raw Material Specifications
- Bill of Materials
- Yield Validation Reports
- Trial Reports and Technical Documentation
- Ensure all technical documents are accurate, complete, and compliant with Technical Governance requirements.
D. Material Evaluation & Validation
- Evaluate new and alternative raw materials, ingredients, and processing aids for technical suitability.
- Conduct material evaluation trials to assess functionality, quality, process compatibility, yield, and cost impact.
- Prepare technical evaluation reports and provide recommendations for material approval or improvement.
- Support supplier validation and qualification activities as required.
E. Food Safety & Quality Compliance
- Ensure products comply with GMP, HACCP, food safety regulations, and company quality standards.
- Support shelf‑life studies, product validation, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance during product validation and commercialization activities.
F. Continuous Improvement
- Conduct yield validation, recovery studies, and process performance evaluations.
- Identify opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and material utilization.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through data collection, analysis, and implementation of process enhancements.
G. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with R&D Development, Production, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain teams throughout the product development and commercialization process.
- Participate in technical discussions, production trials, and commissioning activities.
- Provide technical support during product launches, process improvements, and operational readiness initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in food manufacturing, commissary operations, Quick Service Restaurant (QSR), or a related food industry.
- Experience in product development, product commercialization, process validation, and production scale‑up.
- Experience in conducting material evaluations, recipe standardization, yield validation, and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting new product launches and cross‑functional projects is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, Food Safety, and Quality Management Systems.
- Proficient in recipe development and standardization, process validation, yield analysis, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with sensory evaluation, ingredient functionality, and raw material assessment.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and report‑writing skills.
