Job summary

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering and services, seeks a Synchrolift Mechanic / Rigger / Diver to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The Diver conducts underwater surveys, operates a hyperbaric chamber, and performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Dive Locker equipment. Requires U.S.

diving credentials and OSHA/Coast Guard medical eligibility. Three years of commercial diving experience and a valid driver’s license are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years commercial diving experience preferred.
  • Graduate of a U.S. certified diving school.
  • Ability to pass OSHA/Coast Guard diving medical requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license with suitable driving record.
  • Read/speak/understand English to perform contract duties.
  • Passport valid for at least one year at hire; visa clearance possible.

Responsibilities

  • Assist planning/execution of underwater surveys and mission recoveries.
  • Operate hyperbaric chamber as required and tender hyperbaric treatments.
  • Perform maintenance on Dive Locker equipment and underwater vessels.
  • Work in confined spaces and in open-water environments.
  • Maintain safety PPE and repairs on buoys/moorings.
  • Utilize tools for water vessel repair; comply with procedures.

Job description

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Synchrolift Mechanic / Rigger / Diver to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia.

The Diver is primarily responsible for conducting underwater surveys and recoveries, operate hyperbaric chamber, and perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on assigned equipment.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Assists in the planning and execution of underwater surveys and mission recovery operations.
  • Operates hyperbaric chamber, as required.
  • Acts as a tender for hyperbaric medical treatments.
  • Performs scheduled, unscheduled or emergency maintenance and repairs on equipment assigned to Dive Locker.
  • Performs assigned tasks in an underwater vessel and in confined spaces.
  • Operates vessels assigned to the Dive Locker as required based on training.
  • Ensures the appropriate use of personal protective equipment for the job task being performed.
  • Repairs and maintains all local buoys and moorings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Working knowledge of using a variety of hand tools such as drills, torches and welding equipment typically required for water vessel repair.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and displaying mature judgment.
  • Understanding and following directions.
  • Able to work cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.
  • Additional knowledge/skill requirements may be required by assignment or contract.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous commercial diving experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a U.S. certified commercial diving or U.S. military diving school.
  • Ability to pass a diving physical consistent with OSHA Commercial Diving Regulations (29 CFR 1910, Subpart T) or U.S. Coast Guard Regulations (46 CFR 197, Subpart B).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with suitable driving record.
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.
  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
