Job summary

Axos Bank is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to own critical AI initiatives and deploy sophisticated agents for key business domains. You will mentor junior engineers, shape AI strategy, and drive adoption of AI-native practices across the organization.

You will design prompts, architectures, and integrations, while owning KPIs and ROI reporting. Candidates should have 3–7 years in software/AI roles and a strong background in Python/JavaScript/.NET.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of professional software development and/or AI/ML engineering experience.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT, Mathematics, or related discipline (or equivalent).

About This Job

Join Axos Bank as a Senior AI Engineer to take ownership of critical AI initiatives. You will design and deploy sophisticated AI agents for key business domains, mentor junior engineers, and drive the adoption of AI-native practices across our organization. You'll work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI technology and enterprise systems, owning outcomes and shaping our AI strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and deployment of agents for specific business domains; own technical architecture and quality standards
• Develop sophisticated prompts and system designs; establish best practices for prompt engineering across the team
• Architect integrations between AI systems and internal platforms; lead code review and validation processes
• Implement Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers; design and refine patterns for enterprise data integration
• Own creation and maintenance of AI skills and plugins; guide their adoption by development teams
• Conduct rigorous analysis of AI model outputs; drive iterative improvements to prompt and system design
• Design comprehensive testing strategies for AI-generated code and documentation; establish quality standards
• Establish and track KPIs and ROI metrics for AI systems; report business impact to stakeholders
• Collaborate with software teams to identify automation opportunities and design scalable agentic workflows
• Lead proof-of-concept and prototype work to validate AI approaches before enterprise deployment
• Mentor junior engineers on AI best practices, LLM capabilities, and prompt engineering techniques
• Document AI workflows, architectural decisions, and best practices for enterprise-wide knowledge sharing
• Drive discovery and requirements gathering for new AI-driven solutions; validate feasibility and ROI

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or related discipline (or equivalent demonstrated expertise)

Nice to Have

• 2+ years of hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt engineering
• Proven experience designing and deploying agentic systems and complex workflow automation
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript with demonstrated software architecture knowledge
• Experience with API integrations and enterprise integration patterns (REST, GraphQL)
• Leadership or mentorship experience in technical environments
• Deep expertise with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, and automated testing frameworks
• Strong background in software testing practices, quality metrics, and code review standards
• Production experience in financial services, banking, or regulated industries
• Knowledge of prompt injection risks, AI security considerations, and responsible AI practices
• Qdrant vector database architecture and deployment experience
• Databricks experience or deep knowledge of enterprise data engineering and analytics platforms
